All of us non-Californians just want a chance to see that beautiful work of art behind your Suburban up close!

Here's a tip: If you desire privacy and rest, don't travel with a polished vintage Airstream...people stop by all the time to chat and admire the trailer. Uaually very nice people, especially in Texas.

Uwe,

Are you back? How was your trip? Don't tempt us with this small post.

BIll
I made it to Williams AZ today, from Albuquerque, NM. The park I am staying at happens to have WIFI, so here we go.
I decided to make the trip back from Austin a little different from the trip to Austin. The I-10 corridor is nothing short of hell on earth this time of year. Too hot. 900 miles of looking at blown tires got to me.
Besides, it was Ken J's birthday yesterday, so a detour to Albuquerque through the Texas countryside on 2-lane highways seemed more than appropriate. Took the northwestern route out of Austin, crossed I-20 at Sweetwater, and made it to Lubbock KOA Monday night. Next day was zippin' through beatiful, although very flat Texas farmland to Albuquerque, staying at Ken's wonderful new home. The man has a RV pad amidst fragrant pines with a view...the best spot during the entire trip. Of course the company played a paramount role in that.
Today, after a hearty New Mexico breakfast, I made it to Williams, AZ. It seems that I-40, despite all the construction, is much easier on the equipment. It's cooler up here, for sure. I have not needed A/C since staying at the KOA in Lubbock. I'm being doused by rain as I write this. I sure hope my sealing efforts before the trip will help keep the rain where it belongs - outside.

Uwe's visit has been the highlight of my summer - we really had a great time.

Uwe's trailer is beautiful - seeing it has re-inspired me to get the 58 finished and back on the road. Far far better than any picture can show. And the sound system........its really cool -

After much thought, I think I am going to look to buy a 23-27' Airstream. This will narrow down all my choices, yet I could be swayed if a smaller or larger one comes along at the right price (really inexpensive).

I would suggest you buy the one in the best condition that you can possible find - really inexpensive = very expensive in the end....

And make sure it comes from a dry environment if at all possible! i.e. don't buy a trailer from Washington state!

Like I did - see beginning of this thread. However, if you're going to do a restoration, then it doesn't matter that much, as you need to redo everything anyways. Please do not think that this is cheap, though. I could have bought a good used 2000+ model for what I have invested in mine.

When I said inexpensive, I was joking. I know that the purchase price is just the beginning. What would you think is the most expensive thing on an Airstream to replace?
