There is no perfect setup. You could have 2 or 3 different units & take the one best suited to your destination! ;-)

Since 2 years I'm sure my AS will be FB,,,, and finely I bougth B
Why: we don't make reservation and Boundock often and when we take a camping habitualy sites avalables are across the street on water front (view is in front). On the road we stop for lunch and I use the PU tail gate as a table (BBQ), same thing when boundocking.
My old SOB had a back door and during the last vacation, I realised how many time I'm walking around the picnic table to the PU and back.
For the view, last year vacation the FB had been beter but this year B was beter. Anyway we cook and eat mostly outside, so when I can have the best view on the side it is perfect.
My wife is wory about the size, 25' instead of 21' SOB, But I'm sure she'll be good in it after 1 weekend.

We haven't had any problems camping where size was the issue and that includes National, State, County, etc., campgrounds. I have heard many stories of buying small then trading it in for a longer model within a year or two. Go big and you won't regret it.

We're about to get the 27FB and have the 2013 Tundra crewmax 4x4 with trailer towing packages.
What hitch do you use?

Hi Gator Bob,
We're picking her up later this week. We opted for the Equal-i-zer hitch with 1200 lb rating (90-00-1200). Haven't used it yet so I can't give a thumbs up or down report.

We were worried about the length of the 27FB so we bought the 28. It's one whole inch shorter.

But a whole lot different living arrangement. It's a good design for family or long term living.

For us the 28 was a better fit than the 27FB.

We took our new FB out last week for a shakedown cruise. The first thing we noticed was the view from the dinette.
We spend a lot of time in Colorado where I think this view will be a great asset, but we do spend a few weeks a year at the Texas coast where there is often not much to look at in the RV park itself, so it probably doesn't matter.
We are selling our 1977 29 footer that we have used for a few years after my son used it as a dorm while going through college. When we got it, I thought it was huge, but it pulls great. It was a little big (and low slung) for a few of the national forest campgrounds, but not many. At the coast, where the snowbirds hang out in huge 5th wheels, we have often been the smallest camper in the lot. The 27 is really only 13" shorter than the 29, but its wider, so we don't feel like we gave up much.

Slimhawg, you didn't specify if you are a solo camper, coupled, or with a family. I think this makes a difference. I'm a solo camper nearly all of the time and my (modified) 23D is perfect for me. I have no plans to trade for something larger.

Ah, great choice! I can't imagine two people trying to sleep in my 48" wide corner bed! You will love it.

The real payload gain going from a 25FB to 27FB
While comparing our trailer to the one that just moved along side in the storage facility, I was surprised at a couple of numbers.
Both trailers are International Serenity models built in 2012. Our 25FB was built in mid June with the last four digits of the serial number 7369 and the 27FB was built in July 2012 with the last four digits of it's serial number as 7401. That means the trailers were built within 32 units of each other and delivered to the same dealership in Los Angeles.
The 25FB has a GVW of 7,300 pounds and the 27FB has a GVW of 7,600 pounds for a 300 pound difference in the GVW.
The real surprise appears on the data plates of the two trailers. The 25FB has a payload of 1,635 pounds from the factory while the 27FB has a payload of 1,686 pounds from the factory. Thus the increase in length of about 25 inches uses up most of the 300 pound increase in GVW with only a 51 pound increase in payload.

Good choice on the 27FB. I have a 2009 27fb Ocean Breeze and have spent the past two years full timing in it and love. I could spend another year or two without any problems. My girlfriend and I have spent as long as a week traveling in my trailer and the 27 is a great size for it. If I was full timing with my gf I would want at least a 30 but traveling it has been a great size and wouldn't want anything less.
I love the setup and the couch is great for spending time together relaxing on the couch. We love the rear bedroom for camp sites that have a great view. I've been in a 23 and wouldn't want to spend more than two weeks traveling in it let alone with a significant other. Call me crazy but after spending 7 months in Afghanistan on a small base with no heat, ac, or running water I don't like "camping" or being in something too small anymore, lol.

Gator Bob,
We purchased our 27FB gently used and it came with a Reese Dual Cam trailer hitch. We have used this setup for the past 2.5 years and it works great for us. There are a lot of threads and opinions on a wide range of hitch options, but I like this setup, however YMMV.

27 FB with Tundra and Equalizer
This being our first year trailering we made the classic mistake of thinking the 23D with it's cute bed/bath area would work great. BIG mistake! Both were way too small, especially for someone 6'3".
Got home from our first trip and the very next day went to our local AS dealer and bought the 27FB and couldn't be happier. Scott and Becky were part of the inspiration to go the 27' route (Thanks guys!).
Our Tundra with the Equalizer hitch tows like a dream! Currently on a 4 week/4800 mile trip with zero problems.
Have fun with your new purchase!

I'm about to get a '12 27FB, and was going to get an F150 Ecoboost 4x4 3.73. Should I be thinking about a Tundra??

Absolutely not! I just picked up my 27FB and I have a 2013 ecoboost and it tows like a dream. No other half ton comes close to being able to pull like the Eco period dot! Other guys will come on here and try to justify why they chose a tundra and why you should too but, I am telling you if your in the business of towing anything with a 1/2 ton truck your starting at a disadvantage if you go with anything other than a ecoboost.
I would recommend getting the 6.5 foot bed like i did. The longer wheel base makes for a smoother ride and also will tow better. Defiantly go with 3.73 rear end also, 4x4, and off road package. The shocks are better than non off road package.
BTW I towed it from Portland to Spokane and Averaged 11.9 miles/gallon.

Any 1/2 ton truck will do it, but I tow with a Tundra and an Equal-i-zer.
