1990 Excella 1000
Hi,
we have just added a 1990 32' Excella to our little family.
It will be joining soon his 2 older brothers: our #1: 1971 TW 25' and our #2: 1974 LY Int 29'.
We have been living in our #2 since 1996, using #1 for a guest room.
Our #2 suffers from the infamous "tail dragging syndrome", and to fix it while living in it is not in the cards for us. We have already put 100,000 miles total between #1 & #2. It is time now to retire #2 to become the guest room.
We will have modifications to make to #3 before we go on the road for 4 months, end of May.
Our 2 1970's had much lighter cabinetry and we will most certainly remove a lot of mirrors.
The 1st project will be to change from twin beds to double. Stripping the existing bedroom looks like a no-brainer. The problem seems to be how to position the bed to have clearance around it, not whack our heads on the cabinets and mostly to be able to get into the bedroom without too much contortion.
It looks like the matresses they put in are longer than the traditional 3/4 full that we have on our 1974. A shorter matress will help some.
I know several people have remodeled the bedroom, and we would love to hear from them. Which way did you orient the matress, and mostly: if you had to do it again, what would you change ?
The rest of the work will be a lot simpler: the chipped porcelain coated sink will be replaced by a stainless sink (must change the counter-top to do that I suppose). The microwave is too small, and the dealer told us it is just a normal household product.
We love the rear bath in our #2, it's a lot roomier. If it was not for this ^@*%@#* sag !!! Not much to do about roominess here. We can gain just a few inches by changing the toilet (porcelain, too heavy and long) We will swap it for the shorter plastic from our #2.
We are anxious to exchange "remodeling" ideas with all of you who came before us, and to benefit from the experience of those who "have been there"
