1978 Land Yacht Value (in a hurry)

My grandfather's estate is about to be settled. I have about three days to respond. I thought it would all go to auction, but they are trying to take bids right now on a few items. I'm trying to verify the details, but I believe it to be a 1978 Land Yacht that is 31 or 32 feet in length. The inside was all original (14 years ago) when it was parked under a shed. To my knowledge it has been untouched. I know my grandmother had filled it with moth balls if that helps anything. i think the top bid is about 3K at the moment. I'm sure that after that long wiring and plumbing may have been destroyed by rodents. I would also suspect ac/heat and refrigerator issues to be something to most certainly need addressing. However, before being locked up, it was immaculate inside. I know sight unseen it would be hard to roll off a good number, but if someone could ball park it, that would be a big help to me. I am familiar with forums and know i could maybe read some more and find out a great deal (as i plan to do) but any help would be much appreciated. (BTW- plumbing was drained before parking)

T135 land Yacht- Serial #131T3j1658 Found serial number thanks

If that serial number is correct, it's a 1973 not a 78. The "1" is an I for International, 31 is the length, T is for twin beds, J is Jackson Center where it was built. The rest is the sequential production number.

The best guess estimates are probably from: Price vs. Condition - Vintage Airstream

They also give you an idea of what conditions go with what price range.

Since you really don't know much about the trailer, it is going to be hard for you to know what is fair.

I think I can get over a look at it from the outside. The inside may not be viewable due to family "situations" (so very sad, but true). How do I know if it is a sovereign or an Excella 500? If I go by the "as found" category" if I could get it for 3k that seems to be okay since there is some sentimental value to it as well. In my minds eye I don't remember dents etc, but I need to take a look at it. There will be no chance to check appliances without purchasing it and towing it away. An uncle stole the original aluminum bottles off of it so that decreases the value some.

It's probably not an Excella, I think the first character (I in your case) would be E for an Excella.

Don't really have that option. I found out the current bid is 2500 and I can bid 2750 but I think I would go to 3200 if I had to. I'm going to try to "sneak" by and at least look at the exterior so i'll know what kind of shape it is actually in. I believe all of the windows are good and original, but there again the grass has been mowed around it for several years and a rock may have found its way into a window. I'll just have to see. Thanks

How can i get a key for it?

Naturally since its a loving family, those with the key will not release the key. They simply deny ever having it which is know to be a lie. Anyway, can i have a key made base on the serial number or do i need to find a lock smith after it is purchased.

When he mentioned 'memories', I just knew he had to bid to win. I hope he won!
