Well, I finally got to go out and play in our new toy yesterday and see what kind of treasures it was hiding. I recieved the A/S manual (vague to say the least), manual for the Robert Shaw Sun Ray stove and auto lighter, all correspondence pertaining to the unit and hitch and brakes +. Auxillary mirrors (don't know if they're Mckesh or not, didn't dig them out). The original waxed cardboard box with the reese eq. bars in it. The owners blue beret and assorted clothes hats and cardigan sweaters. All the kitchen ware is there with bedding, rugs, towels etc. The Veritas glass lamp is in unused condition, furnace is in great shape. All the window and vents are complete and operational with all original hardware. Has the original(?) electric hot water heater, upgraded to demand water pump and electric water tank gauge. Original curtains and upholstery. Zolatone is perfect throughout. Even the insides of the drawers and bed tops are painted in zolatone. Airstream dealer potholders and other neat stuff like all aluminum Ray Ban sunglasses. Has an auxillary gas heater in the bath. Outside is near perfect with 1 softball sized dent in upper rear corner wrap and only minor beauty marks. All the original bargman lenses are there and uncracked or checked. The original Bargman door handle and dead bolt are intact, functional and not bad looking (I can see why tey would break though). Aluminum tanks w/auto switch valve, electric jack, aluminum jack stands (no jack plate , darn) and everything I've tried so far works! Have to cut off the lock on the battery box so i can get in there and poke around and see if the battery will take a charge. Overall we are very happy with our find and can't wait to take it out and enjoy. I have to borrow a digital camera so I can post pics.
We feel like it is a sort of time capsule. My wife and I were discussing the fact we'll feel guilty when we do start pulling stuff out. But we are going to box it all up and save it for the next owner, as she and I agreed we feelt more like care takers and not owners. We are just thankful to the owner for loving it as much as he did, he didn't have any children, so the trailer was his baby.
I'm tech deficient, still shooting with film. My Sister-in-law is coming over with her digital camera to shoot pics tomorrow so I'll hopefully have a mess of 'em to post. Believe me, I'm anxious to show it to you all!
I'm sure you're going to be a big hit at the Vintage Rally's & the Tincan Tourist Rally's. That's truly a beautiful Airstream and I'm majorly impressed with it's condition. It's something one wouldn't want to fulltime in!
