1955 Airstream

I just purchased a 1955 Airstream, 19 ft. I am trying to find the name for the trailer, any ideas?

The 18 footers in 1955 were called Globe Trotters, built only in Ohio that year according to my source. Post the serial number and I can check it against a name and length. How are you measuring the trailer, body length or overall length?

Post the serial numbers and you will get immediate response as to where it was built and what you got!

Thanks Bill, this is fun trying to find out the exact information. Tommy Green gave me Fred Caldwells e mail and I asked him about my trailer, he asked the serial number, and he told me it really is a 1954 or possibly a 1953.

An interesting thing about the actual ages of the vintage trailers. I learned that before laws changed RV manufacturers and dealers were not shy about listing the year of the trailer when it first sold as the year of manufacture. Thus if a trailer happened to sit on a lot for a long time it wasn't necessarily sold in the year it was made.

In my trailers case it was sold to me as a 63 although I knew it was much older. When the trailer was imported into Canada, in 1963, they registered it as such versus reality, which is that it was made in 1951. I am working with DMV now to have that corrected but it's not an easy process.

Pictures of your new trailer would be great.

Thanks,
Barry
