Talking Wanted 22' to 28' Airstream

Have cash for 1970's or 1980's 22' to 28' Airstream with twin beds. Must be in "like new" condition, no smoking, no pets, no problems. I am looking the the nicest units out there for my retirement traveling

8/22/2003 I am happy to say that we have picked up a 1986 25 foot sovereign with rear twin beds The unit is well equiped and in great shape. We have pulled it from Buffalo New York to Dallas Texas and it trailed like a dream. I have the anti sway bars on the hitch and big trucks going by had no effect on it what-so-ever. I have it now being completely checked out by my local Airstream dealer just to make sure it is all ready for our travels. Thanks to everyone who offered their help and advice.

Might be a tough order to fill.

A 70's or 80's Airstream is still going to be at least what, 13 or 14 years old? There are nice ones out there but they are few and far between. If you want a minimal amount of troubles even in an Airstream you may want to look at something new or almost new and even then there can be problems. If I wanted something with minimal troubles and that was easy on the pocketbook I would get a "white box" trailer.

As far as I can remember no one ever said owning a vintage Airstream was easy or easy on the wallet.

Good luck in your search,

Chas

If I were you, I would look for an older 90s wide (102") body for retirement use. The extra half foot of width makes a huge difference in liveability and it would be a more reliable trailer. It wouldn't cost you any more than a highly restored earlier unit where you are paying a "vintage premium".

Smile How about an 85 30 footer?

Check out what I just posted re: 1985 30 ft Sovereign trailer, in Banning, CA. It would be a trip but the trailer looks really fine and they said was owned by a person who took great care of their Airstream.

BTW, Banning is between Palm Springs and San Bernardino/Redlands on a California Map, Southern part on the I10 freeway

Thanks for your input, I know it will be a tough search but well worth it I am sure. I have owned Airstreams in the past so I am somewhat familer with them. I just do not want someone else's problems or a "project" unit. I found the Airstream to be much like my Cessna, if you take proper care of it, they will last longer than any of us. The newer ones are just too "pricey" for me and do not really offer any more than a good older one.
Thanks for your comments, I am glad there are still a good bunch of people out there that are willing to help others.
Take care,
Dale

reply to looking for airstream

well , two came to mind . first of all there was a 22ft airstream for sale in last weeks san jose mercury news. they are located in san jose ca on ridder park drive. price was 2 thousand dollars, for those that want to know. after reading your thread i see more clearly what your desires are. if what youre looking for is an immaculate mint safari ,i can honestly tell you of the most immaculate 70's safari you could ever find. i was having a/c installed in my 62 globetrotter i believe the date was april 21st, on my way back from french camp rally in manteca. upon staying overnite at the airstream dealer (tocanos r.v. in los banos ca)i me6t a customer who was also having his a/c installed same day. he was the owner of an absolutely immaculate hand polished safari that looked as if it had spent its entire life in a glass bubble. if i am not mistaken , which i am not...he said he wqanted 15 thousand dollars. if this is what you want ,then that is what you could expect to pay easily for one like this. cant think of another ive ever seen this nice and for the money. he told me his name and said he wqas listed in the w.b.c.c.i. directory. he wasnt trying to sell it too hard but was getting a bus and if youd like i can tell you how to get in touch with him. wayne wunder 82 globetrotter/99safari
