serial numbers - help!

1. where do I find the VIN number?
2. one of the airstreams we're looking at is supposed to be a 1980 25' Land Yacht. The ownership shows VIN# S325DOJ1385
3. I've visited both the pre and post 1980 pdf's on serial numbers, and can't make hide nor hair of this one.
4. 'International' is on the side of this trailer, and it has the rear bath, twin bed arrangement.

Any suggestions?

You can go there website and go to FAQs. there is reference as to how to read serial numbers.

Where do I look on the trailer itself for the VIN?

what is an "ownership"? do you mean a title or registration?

the POs of my trailer had the numbers wrong on their paperwork, too.

There should be a plate on the front street side corner of the trailer with the vin. My trailer also has the vin on a plate outside the entry door.

thanks, Chuck. We're transplanted Canadians, so our terminology isn't always understandable - maybe it's the accent!

By 'ownership', I mean title or registration. The VIN on the title is obviously incorrect according to the FAQ notes on pre and post 1980 numbers. We'll try to get them off the trailer itself, looking at the places you suggest. I'd hate to buy an Airstream thinking I was getting one thing, and then find out later that it's older - or whatever.

Here is what I get from this from traits that Airstream uses in their SN#

S California plant
3 Throwing me
25 Length
D Double bed
O It's 0 (zero) not "O" Year of manufacture. 0=1980
J Throwing me
1385 Sequence number

FYI Airstream does model years like auto manufactures. Anything from Oct up will be the next model year.

Somewhere there should be a build date plaque as well.

The "J" typically signifies Jackson Center...as in Ohio.

thanks, everyone. I must say, that the camaraderie and helpfulness apparent among the AS owners who frequent this site is one of the main reasons we are looking at Airstreams.
