Question for Flying Cloud aficionados...

... I continue my quest for a 22-foot, late-'50s Airstream with the 13-panel endcaps, which from my research looks to be the Flying Clouds, Safaris & Caravanners from '55, '56 & '57. (Love the whaletail, but aesthetically, anything with the 13 panels is great.) This posting on eBay caught my eye, but I'm confused:

What's with the front end? Am I missing something quirky about the models & years? It doesn't match up with ANYTHING on vintageairstreams.com
