If I didn't already have the Caravel, the Argosy would definitely have been a "keeper".
If anyone is interested, here's the EBAY LINK and here's a LINK TO THE PHOTOS
Rog, I just checked your winning bidder. He has several negative feedbacks for being a non-paying bidder, with a feedback rating of 1. Your daughter could probably get this guy suspended, or kicked off ebay altogether, to keep it from happening to someone else. Ebay SHOULD refund the selling fees for this auction, especially if you turn this guy in for a deadbeat bidder.
My $.02.

Roger,
I think after three people filing a non paying bidder complaint against a wiining bidder, they're suspended. I just had a guy from Italy send me a money order that even the Fed didn't know what to do with. When I went to post negitive feedback, I found that he had been suspended. It happened fast. They don't mess around with these kind of transactions. I'v been selling on eBay for about 3 1/2 years and this is only the second time that i've had a problem. I think most people are honest, but you can always find a few that screw up anything they're involved in.

Terry and Jack, she will definitely pursue what you suggest. Just waiting for the 10 day "workout" time to lapse as Ebay requested.

Here is my 2 cents . As good as E-bay is it sucks aswell. I have sold many cars on E-bay and about 50% of the time they never send the cash. Here is some things I do to help out the item that I am selling.
1) write in the description a trems like this " You bid you win you own" that will get rid of the tire kickers
2) State in the bid If you have less than 3 + feed backs you must e-mail me before you bid .
3) check out there feed back that "winner was a dead beat". I would e-mail them to get some more info.Give them a check out. test there e-mail skills
4) Don't give up it will sell .Try e-mail the other bidders 9 out of 10 time you can make a deal

Good Luck Jim

just in case anybody's interested ...

... i'm not sure whether i'll bid on this trailer or not because it would require setting my alarm & THAT hasn't happened in probably a year & a half ... but here is the response to my questions (and, if I can manage it, the very cool photo of the El Camino that the seller wanted to pull the trailer with)

In answer to your questions: First why I stopped my restoration, as you can see in the photo I restored my 1959 El Camino to pull the airstream, as I was restoring the airstream I lost my storage space in my mobile home park where I could work on it to an expansion of the park which took all the storage away. Unhappy as I am to sell it, I don't have a place to work on it anymore. I was planning to join the airstream club. The gash on the side was there when I bought it, I planned to cover it with the connections for the water and electrical. The gash is only on the outside, not all the way thru. The underskin all the way thru is good. I have put new glass into two windows, one in the back and one on the side and have the glass for one more window and the rubber for around all the windows. The rest of them should be glassed also, I just hadn't got that far. Some of the windows still have screens, not all of them are good. The front door screen is real good. I put a new axial and bearings on, electric brakes, and rewired the inside by fishing the wire thru the skin without cutting it. Its wired for the reversible fans in the two vents. Its wired for AC DC. Tires are good. Its ready to be towed legally, its licensed and stop lights etc are all working. I have have put around $6,000 into the restoration to this point. I bought some new cabinets and they are inside ready to be installed however the old oak cabinets are still there. It has the 3 panel bifold door dividing the coach to the bedroom. Hope you enjoy the photo. If you have anymore questions feel free to call

Argosy Ebay Sale

I sold my 1977 25' Argosy on EBAY. It was a very exhausting effort but it was sold in the time frame of the auction. I had buyers offering to buy it before the end of the sale, I had some come as far from Florida to Texas to look at it and the final sale to a young couple from Arkansas site unseen.

Regardless of the things you list on EBAY regarding the condition of the trialer, there will be additional long list of questions and for a good reason. If they are buying site unseen, they need to be sure what they are getting. Pictures help.

My Argosy was placed as a Buy Now for a price and conditions of the sale was 50% of the asking price with a money order prior to picking the trailer up with the balance at pickup.

Update 5/5/04

The bidder in question now has 4 negative feedbacks (non payment) just since 5/1/04. If Ebay fulfills their policy, he will be suspended.
The trailer is RELISTED ON EBAY.

Hey Rog - here is an idea for selling. How bout a reverse auction. That's how we bought our Argosy. The guy set his price and each day (12:00am) it reduced by $100. He said it sold really quick and right after we made our bid, 3-4 others came in. Of course, I guess you can get a none payer that way also, but we were told to send a dwn pmt within 24hrs or he could take the next bidder's bid (he had everyone's e-mail from our bids & I think he requested phone #'s too) Maybe that would work for you guys.

PS It was whoever made the 1st bid that won. You didn't know who won until PO notified you and I think he sent us an e-mail saying "Please contact me by phone, as you are the winner" Once we called, he got our phone # and explained about the 24hr deal and the other bidders he had behind us. Kind of a boot in the rear knowing others were lined up.

Thanks for the suggestion, Leigh. If this Ebay listing doesn't bring a positive sale, we will definitely be looking at other alternatives, might just sell it auction style on this Forum.
It really is a nice trailer but I simply don't have time to fuss with it and Daughter does need the money.

I have to say, I talked with Roger offline and I can't see that trailer not selling. If it hadn't been for Brandi's father being 6'7", I prob would have taken it off Rog's hands, fixed it up (not that it needed much) and passed onto her folks!

It's a nice looking coach.

Just a thought ...

.... would it have been worth it to say that the Argosy is being relisted because the buyer was AWOL or had bad feedback? Because, usually, when I see a trailer relisted I assume that it's because the buyer got a look at the thing & passed on account of it not being as good as advertised or something else that doesn't necessarily reflect well on the seller.

Also, did you contact the "ellary" bidder to see whether he/she was still interested? I just glanced through the thread again real quickly & didn't see anything to that effect.

summerkid, did you see the first line of the new ad where daughter said "Winning bidder of first auction did not pay, come to inspect the vehicle or respond to e-mails. Serious bidders only, please."?
I can think of several other words I'd use to describe the jerk but they wouldn't be as mild as AWOL and would be bleeped by Ebay.
Ellary was sent a second chance offer and an email explaining the reason. He/she didn't respond.
I agree that relistings tend to look suspicious but what can the seller say other than the simple truth?
If you're able to do an ID search, you'll see that the deadbeat has used 3 other user names in the past, one of them quite vulgar. Why Ebay has allowed him to to stay
enrolled is beyond me.

The auction is over

The winning bid of the relisting was just $2,275.13! Almost $2k less than the original auction.
I feel like I've been robbed.
I will never ever sell anything on Ebay again.
Do you realize what the deadbeat bidder beat my daughter out of?
Anybody want to buy my Caravel? I am very unhappy.
