Everyone has their limit to what they can stand. I'd be kicking myself for years if I lost $500 on a deal I backed out of! My husband would never let me hear the end of it for one thing! I'm just not adventurous enough to take that risk. But I'm glad you did and got a good trailer out of it.

No, unfortunately, I don't. I'd think that initially perhaps a patch would be in order... lot less expensive, easy to do, and if done properly looks OK... especially there...

Angry Deadbeat Ebay buyer

Much has been posted about shady Ebay sellers but my daughter just got burned by a buyer.
The winning bid on this Argosy was $4169. She was absolutely delighted and so was I.
That was eight days ago, 4/23/04.
The winning bidder sent one email on 4/23 saying he would send the $500 deposit on 4/26/04, despite the clear payment instructions in her ad ($500 deposit must be sent by Fedex within 48 hours of end of auction).
That was the last she heard from him despite several email attempts asking for a response.
She sent a payment reminder through Ebay 2 days ago and filed a Non Payment report today. She also sent a second chance offer to the next highest bidder but no reply.
Now she is in a quandary about re-listing, ebay refund, etc. Ebay says she must wait 10 days before doing anything else.
My gift has turned into a major headache for her. I have no experience in selling anything on Ebay and am at a loss as to what she should do. I wonder if she has any legal recourse against this deadbeat for the money and time he has caused her to lose?
Advice from anyone who has had similar experience would be much appreciated.

I need advice also

I don't mean to horn in on your thread summerkid, but I've just had a very unhappy Ebay experience and need advice. See my DEADBEAT EBAY BUYER post.
Thanks

please feel invited to chime in ...

... my questions were very much about the world of bidding and selling and this circumstance certainly applies. Why in the world would somebody bid without the intention of following through? I'm so sorry. Wish I could help. Hmmmmm..... Maybe I need an Argosy?

I'm confident that someone on the forum will have astute advice.

Thanks summerkid

It's very perplexing. The "buyer" in question didn't come to see the trailer, so his motive for bidding and not paying is a mystery to me.
I'll be very interested in learning how to avoid this type of disappointment in the future if anyone has suggestions.
Maybe I should ask mods to move my thread here to avoid confusion?

If I were selling a trailer, I'd be inclined to put it on rvtraderonline. on e-bay, there's this "impulse" shopper stuff...I sort of wonder if its really the best way to sell an item like that.

just speaking from my own experience as a buyer. I found my trailer on rvtraderonline....searching by "region", etc. I believe the po told me that they paid one price for the add, and the deal was that it stays listed on their site until it sells.

I don't know. maybe it doesn't make much difference.

Going after the deadbeat buyer will take time and energy. Better to put the time and energy into helping your daughter sell the item off ebay, or re-list it asap. Not much you can do with a deadbeat anyways, unless you kow where he/she lives. Chuck's advice makes a lot of sense to me, and there are lots of other free sites to post a trailer for sale. We have www.recycler.com ( free classifieds, printed also) in our area, there are always Airstreams listed in there. Maybe your area has a similar outlet.
Good Luck to your daughter through her hard times.

Thanks for the replies. Daughter went the Ebay auction route for the quick sale. If the bidder had been honest, it would be a done deal now. I have sold other trailers via online classifieds and I agree that if you're in no hurry to sell, it's a much safer way to go because you don't cancel the ad until you have money in hand.
The first trailer I sold took nearly 6 months and a whole lot of correspondence with potential buyers.

Thanks also for the good wishes, Uwe
