Brand New 22' CCD, never moved from the dealer's lot! GE Platinum, full 7 year warranty included!!
Hi fellow Airstream lovers!
We're selling our 22' because the 25' was released a day later!! and it suits our needs better.
Needless to say that trading it in to the dealer does not recoup our costs.
We need to sell ours before we can get our new 25'.
No BS on price, asking $39,800. with the full warranty.
We have pictures and the trailer is visible at the dealer's lot.
Before you take a hit on the trailer have you discussed the dealer not disclosing the fact that the unit you wanted was in production, and he lied to you pre purchase, with Airstream?
I would make the call and ask for Larry Huttle, he is in charge of dealer relations and used to be the President of Airstream. They can apply pressure on the dealer to make it right. The trailer has not been off the lot from your posts and you would not of bought it had you known that the one they have was coming.
The dealer has no reason to help you because he wins either way. If you keep the one you own, he sold one. If you sell the first one and buy the second one, twice as good. This rewards the dealer for lying. I am sure you do not have the assurance in writing that the unit you wanted was not available, but it is at the least worth a phone call.
Just my ramblings on what I think should be done, I hope it works for you however it turns out.

thanks for the advice but our situation is a little more complicated.
June 13, 2003: As confirmed by A. Davis (who works for Huttle) AS released the 25' CCD to all it's Regional Managers who consequently should've informed the dealers.
June 14, 2003: We bought the 22' CCD.
End of June, 2003: We find out of the 25'.
Beg July, 2003: Our dealer boasts on his website he has the 1st 25' CCD off the production line for sale.
July 3, 2003: other dealers in the west part of the country are delivering 25' CCD's!!
When did these dealer order if by July 3rd they were delivering?!! That also leaves us with the doubt about our dealer since he claims he had the 1st one!!
We met with the owner of our dealership and discussed the situation: they're not admitting any ...fault! and what they're offering us is well above other dealer's prices.
In other words trading the 22' to the them is absolutely out of the question and the best price they offered us for the 25' is just plain ridiculous!
We were badly burnt by them and are just trying to recoup our costs for the 22' and finally purchase our new AS elsewhere!
We thought of writing to Reichle and Huttle about this terrible experience but are not keen in purchasing the 25' from this dealer since the precedents with him (unless he gives us a hell of a bargain).
Brett is right. Get the factory involved. I found out first hand that when you get to someone there, they will take care of you or at the very least give you your REAL options, not the options the dealer gave you since for starters they seem kind of below bar in the first place.

Kimili,
Like your new logo!!
Have read with much interest your posts about your A/S dealer. We are looking and the only dealer in VA is about an hour away. Will let you know how our first visit goes. I feel 110% better equiped from all the information that fellow members have shared
we have followed your advice and wrote to both Riegel and Huttle today. Hopefully they'll get back to us soon.
In the meantime we have some wonderful info to share with you.
Although it is not our business practice to deal with more than a couple of dealer at one time, after this terrible experience we went overboard and called ALL the AS dealers within a 10-11hr drive from us!
We asked in writing, for their best price on a new 2004 25'CCD with the following 4 options:
- spare tire kit
- second fantastic fan w/rain sensor
-wrap for windows
- stoneguard.
The results were astonishing!!
Highest price: $49,289 + Tax & Doc. Fee.
Lowest Price: $38,498!!! + Tax & Doc. Fee.
Shopping pays!
Unfortunately until we sell ours, we can't get the 25'.
Thank you all for your advice and support we'll keep you posted. As soon as we have a resolution with our dealer we'll post the info untill then we feel it is not correct and unlike them we are.
Cheers
PS
Thanks for the logo compliments, it's our business, check it out! WWW.Kimili.com
Out of curiosity, is your original dealer charging rent? And/or are they actively selling it? I would believe that there is some liability for having your unit on the lot. And they do not own it. So if some vandal were to damage it, who pays?
Sorry to bring up a negative, however not facing it could be costly.

Phoenix ~ Yeah it's hot however it's a dry heat!
At the time we bought our 22' we did not have a tow vehicle. This was another reason why we were very hesitant in the purchase, but the dealer pushed us by offering free storage until the end of the year.
We took out insurance right away and are covered for damages and/or loss, therefore I presume we are liable.
Hopefully we wont have to investigate this aspect!
If this dealer only knew how many people will be/are hearing of the raw deal you have been given. I sure wouldn't want MY reputation sullied like that. In fact, a few years ago I changed the dealership I was to take delivery from on a GM Program car. I found out that a guy my husband worked with lost a $1300 rebate or something by picking up his new auto 1 day too soon. Noone from the dealership told him to wait one more day..... and I told as many people I could about how they do business.
Good luck to you,
suz

If the CCD has been titled, it is now a used vehicle which will require higher interest rates and shorter loan terms (at least at my credit union). To a second buyer, the fact that it is pre-owned may limit the amount of any insurance settlement as well. Even if it has never been driven off the lot, it carries the stigma of being "used".
IMHO, your only avenue of attack would be to prove in court that you were lied to. Given the chaotic state of Airstream models and specifications, that may be a very tough sell.

Our greatest dissapointment is that the dealer does not seem to make any real good effort in helping us. His only offer is of trading him in our 22' and buying the new 25' (always from him) for a difference of almost $12,000!!
Now, we've found out that many dealers would sell us the 25' for $10,000!! less than what he is asking.
Since we are his unhappy customers, it is our belief he should try to help us as much as possible, not try to make as much money as possible!!
Anyway, the interesting point we discovered from another dealer, is that apparently AS has the power to release a NEW title, for our 22', since it we never took delivery on it, thus reverting the stigma effect.
We don't know how that works, but this other AS dealer stated it can be done. He also mentioned, there is a federal law that grants every RV buyer 72hours to change their minds and get full refund on their purchase for whatever reason. We were never told of this by our dealer! He could've used this law to stop titling of our unit and sell us the 25'. Another example of how he wanted to get rid of his 2003 stock.
Insurance
Some insurances, like ours (National Interstate) insure your RV for the price you paid it, not it's market value. This valu protects the unit both from theft and damages of any kind. The yearly depreciation is minimal. The insurance price was only $60 more a year than other companies. We thought they were well worth it.
