Check your numbers. My '73 "land yacht" w/ 5500lb gvw is only 23' long. (or, at least it is billed by A/S as a 23' model). The serial number on the same plate that lists that 5500lb gvw will tell you for sure. See this page: http://www.airstream.com/airstream/p...pre1980vin.pdf
the vin on my trailer starts with "L23TJ..." which means it is a L andyacht, 23 feet long, Twin bed configuration, made in JacksonCenter, OH.
My 72 Overlander says both Land Yacht and International on it.
That has always been something I was curious about.

Well, from looking at the trailerweights.pdf file on A/S's site, it seems that they were all called "land yacht" back then. "safari" landyacht, "international" landyacht, etc.
Unfortunately, they only list "empty weights" for trailers in this era; no gvwr is listed. (another peeve about A/S's info on the web...much of it is either sparse, missing altogether, or conflicting). However, I think its safe to say that all of the trailers in this era were listed with odd-numbered lenghts. so "26" is inaccurate. As I stated before, My 23' Safari landyacht has a gvwr stamped on its tag of 5500lbs. I sort of doubt that any model of a different size had the exact same gvwr. possible, but unlikely, I would think.
Where'd the 26' number come from? I could see how someone might measure their trailer, and possibly be off by a foot. 1 foot. and they did make 25 and 27 foot models...but I can't believe that either of them would have the same gvw as a 23', and I can't imagine someone would mis-measure a trailer by THREE feet.
So I'm all confused, and I have no idea what KJK is offering for sale.
International was an upgrade package, like the excella or excella 500/1000 kits.
The lenth issue is an odd story. Wher the Argosy's were built Airtsream wanted their trailes to be longer than the Argosy models. That is why the Argosy's all are at least 1 foot shorter than their Airstream cousins. Most Airstreams of the era are odd numbers 19,21,27,31 foot.
Sometimes people measure the length of the shell and consider that the "size" of the trailer. 26 feet would make it a 31 foot trailer or thereabouts.

...but a trailer that size would not have a 5500lb gvw. And since that number is stamped onto the trailer and written in plain english, while the length is encrypted in the vin, making it less obvious, my GUESS would be that this is a 23' trailer. But we won't *know* until KJK clears it up.
Similarly, when I bought my Overlander International it was advertised as a 24' Landyacht. Two erroneous and vague refences. I assume the PO had measured the shell of the trailer and that's where he came up with the 24 foot measurement, add the tongue and it is 27 feet. And, as far as I can tell all Overlanders I've ever seen were International's, another confusing descriptive term. Non-Internationals supposedly have the tanks above the floor, the toilet sets up on a tank and is directly at the rear center, unlike mine with the toilet at the side, mounted directly on the floor. My owners manual shows both types.
The most important thing is that it is an Airstream, so what else matters??
Sorry for the mis-information. I was using the info provided from the previous owner. I checked the actual trailer. It says:
Land Yacht Overlander International
GVWR 6200 AGAW FRONT 2800 AGAW REAR 2800
It is 27 feet from the bumper to the tongue
The first part of the VIN is 127D3J
It was built 4-73
It is currently located in Punxsutawney, PA (about 2 hrs. NE of Pittsburgh). But it could be located in your back yard tomorrow if you contact me to set up an appointment to view it immediately!
Hey, whad'ya know? I was way off. But it just proves my point...we had no idea what KJK was selling; only speculation. Now we know!!
And Chas: certainly, the fact that its an airstream is the most important thing , but some of us have limitations...tow vehicle, parking space, etc. If I were looking for a trailer of this vintage, I might waste time pursuing this particular add thinking that it was smaller than it really is, based on the gvw listed. 27 is too big for me; no place to park it. I might be able to keep a 25 footer, but 27 is definately too big. someone that needs the larger trailer might have dismissed this one too soon, thinking it was smaller than it is. anyway.....just a peeve of mine.
KJK: that first digit is probably an "I", not a "1". So its an International, 27 feet long, Double bed configuration, 1973, made in JacksonCenter, OH. Good luck with your sale!
