For Sale: 1999 Airstream Classic 30' (Colorado)

Howdy all,

Been a while since I've been here...having too much fun with my 2004 A/S Safari 28W!

I have a friend here in town (Montrose, CO) who is selling his beautiful 1999 Airstream Classic Excella 30' coach. [I wish he would have sold it a year ago...to me.] It's in excellent working/cosmetic condition (stored in a barn for most of the years). It's the widebody version (I think, they all are?) with ALL options (according to him). Used by a non-smoking married couple infrequently.

He's asking for $26,000 or best offer.

You can reach him (Mr. Russ Smith) with any questions at (970) 240-3337, MST.

[Moderator: Feel free to move this to Classifieds. I couldn't get it to work when I tried.]

How does your Suburban do pulling your 28' Safari? We are looking at the 25 SS Safari, and are also contemplating a tow vehicle. Is a Tahoe enough, or should we get a 1/2 or 3/4 ton Suburban? or a Duramax pickup?

Exclamation Tow Vehicle

Hi,
I tow my 31 foot Sovereign with a 1998 chev 3/4 ton. Have friends that love the duramax chev. They say it is the best. Going up hills it does not even strugle. My chev. 3/4 ton has 350 vortex eng. with 5 speed stick. Bein all over U>S>A> and Alaska no problem with the hills.

Regards Russell

Sorry about the late reply, redeagle. Well, if we were in the market right now for a tow vehicle, we'd get a 3/4 ton Suburban. But we had the 1/2 ton Suburban prior to our 28 ft Safari and felt that this was the most we could tow with it.

Although we have 10,000 ft passes all around us here in western Colorado, we haven't had any problems with our 1/2 ton Suburban yet...yet. But as our payload increases (growing kids and their stuff), I sure do pine for a 3/4 ton. Maybe they'll make a Duramax Suburban by the time we're in the market.

I think you'd be happiest in the long run with a 3/4 ton Suburban no matter where you live; but a 1/2 ton may suit you fine if you live in the flatlands.

Regards.

I have a K1500 (half ton) suburban ('99) and it tows my 31' real well. I have not been to the rockies, but it does well on the great plains. Another fellow in our unit pulls a 34' with the same vehicle. If you are going for rough terrain, or you are a demanding driver, you would want the 3/4 ton for the extra durability. Otherwise, I think you would do well with a half ton. We both have the 5.7 liter Vortec engine. I get 10-11 mpg towing.
