1977 Agosy value

I was looking at a 1977 22ft Agosy it's in very good shape it looks like it has been well cared for the only things I found that were wrong with it was the paint on the rear was top was pealing no rust the rest of the paint was in very good shape the other thing I found was the counter top formica on the side had come off and someone tacked it back on the rest of the inside looked like new. The Trailer has electric toung jack, new style gas tanks, A/C, rear bath front couch that folds into a bed with a fold out table, on the left side there is another couch that folds out into a bed sink and stove on the other. They are asking $4900.00 and will take $4500.00 how does this price sound?

Thanks

These trailers almost all have problems with the end caps' paint peeling. If everything works, and the interior furnishings and tires/axles are in good shape, it is not too high a price. I have a '72 that I recently tallied my receipts for parts, and I have almost that invested in it. I you are unsure about its condition, you can check out the thread, "So you want to buy an Airstream that's 3 states away?" A volunteer inspector can come over and check it over for you, to make sure you are not missing anything major. These people usually will be happy to look over the prospective addition to your family of vehicles for no more than the expenses of their trip.
I cover Southwest Florida.

I have looked everywhere and can't find this thread.

What should I be looking for when checking the trailer

Thanks

1977 Agosy value

There still might be a problem with the year. The Argosy wasn't introduced until 1972, and its first full model year was 1973. It has often been stated that there weren't any '72 Argosys, but there have been a number titled as '72s and I believe that at least one had a serial/VIN that indicated '72. While it isn't particularly critical to value, it may be critical to registration of the coach if you are in a strict title state where the vehicle VIN is cross-referenced to the title very carefully.

For another viewpoint on establishing a value for a Vintage Airstream/Argosy, you might check out Price VS. Condition. This page gives a number of value reference points - - while it was written primarily for Airstreams it works just as well for Argosys. The point to remember is that the Argosy typically is less costly by 10% to 25% depending upon region of the country.

Even on a coach that has received the greatest of care and sparing use, you are likely to find that the axles are nearing time for replacement - - this was one item on my Minuet that needed almost immediate attention. There is a good article a on DuraTorque axle inspection at: Inland RV DuraTorque Axle Inspection Article.

Good luck with your inspection and decision!

Kevin

You are correct the ad siad 1970 but the owner said that it's a 1972 after looking it over more I think the price was on the high side plus my wife doesn't care for the layout so I passed.

Thanks for all help

Kevin, mine is a definite 1972, with a 1972 VIN. The discussion is moot, now, but there is one for sure '72
