1971 AS @ 31'

I talked to a guy today that has a 31' 1971 AS for sale and I plan going down to see it. He doesn't know what it is other than the year and length. I'll have lots of questons to ask everyone after I look it over, especially if I want to buy it, BUT what models other than the Soveriegn and Excella 500 were made in 31'? What is the basic difference between the two.

Subject to correction, I believe that Sovereign was the name of the 31' model in '71, and Excella denoted a higher trim level.

The AS site lists a Carvel, Globetrotter, Safari, Trade Wind, Overlander, Ambassador, and Sovereign as available models for '71, the lengths being 18, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31', respectively. There was also the 25' Caravanner with its unique open floorplan.

Grey tank

Dont know if you are concerned with it but that model does not have a grey water tank.

Some folks are concerned and some are not.

1971 AS 31'

Thanks to j54mark and smily for your replys - both good information. Two more questions: Will a F250 pull al 31' Sovereigh okay? Is it possible to retro fit a grey water tank to that model/year? I know its possible to use a blue portable tank when stationary in camp, but how do you manage on the road? I really feel that a 31 footer is too big and would prefer 21-25', but I will look and think. Jordan

An f-250 will definately pull a 31'. i toured the country in my 31' with my dodge 2500 and had no problem. the lowest fuel mileage i had was 14.5 mpg. of course i never went over 70 mph. you won't even feel it until you hit the mountains and even then the truck will be fine.
