Our Caravel will be getting a new axel in the next month. It's already on order and being custom made for it. It's not as scary as it sounds. I wouldn't let an old axel stop me from picking up a good looking trailer. That GT looks pretty straight to me.
FYI- A new axle is on our list of things to do in the next year...Maxwell is still a work in progress and has the original dura-torque axle.
Shari
Shari,
Just put new axels under the 64 overlander just in time for the trip to Colorado Springs. My question however is this, do you know of a source for the cabinet hardware found on the 64 vintage trailers. We recently had one of the push to latch door closures fail and had to patch together two of the twist to close latches.
Thanks
Mark

I don't think our trailer has any latches that don't twist-to-close...there are two different types, but both twist & close. There is a larger one on the lower cabinets & a smaller one on the upper cabinets...
Check your PM...

Just my opinion, 60's axles are not all that expensive - I know of a couple that have failed, so when buying an old trailer, I would just add that into the budget - then you know you can go anywhere and basically have a new trailer. I would also rebuild or replace the coupler.
I just discovered that the 64 GT I was looking at sold the day before I saw it. The new owner just hasn't picked it up yet. Price.........$1500
Maxine sold yesterday for $4500. Go figure.

Ken,
I agree with your suggestion about replacing the coupler..
It's just cheap insurance~!
I was cleaning my tongue today..getting it ready for POR-15 and, after looking it over..decided it's should go~
BTW, Keep up the good work on your unit~I enjoy the reading.
ciao

It seems Maxine went with one bid at the opening price of $4,500. What gives?
I think some folks had a hard time looking past the fabric...it looked like a nice trailer that I thought would have gone for more. It looked like it was newly redone too...

Sorry you lost out on that one Rog...the new owner got it for a steal! Be sure to tell the sellers you want the first phone call if the buyer flakes out!
