18 to 24 ft. airstream trailer wanted in Texas

We are looking for a smaller trailer in Texas (or Southwest) area. No major 'fixer-upper' please! Willing to pay up to $ 5,000. Double bed and dinette would be great. Hopefully our dream comes true before August for our summer vacation

Question small trailer

A 1 1/2 foot to 2 foot trailer would work for Barbies and Action figures

You are looking for the most popular size range. They are out there, however the ones that need little work are few and far between.

Do a search for a thread on this forum that has a list of web sites that have airstreams for sale.

Hoping you have good luck in your search-
and welcome to aluminaniacs central,
Barb

Fixed your length measurements. You had inches when you meant feet.

The members don't miss anything.

Welcome to the Forums.

Are you sure?

They only want to pay $5. Seems about right for an 18-24" Airstream.

Get off them!

What kind of welcome is this? Hope they understand we are a bit silly!

oops, sorry!

I should confine my editing to work hours & not let my frustration over posting irregularities show.

How's this: Pat and Bill, what exactly do you mean by "till August"? Did you mean before August? Or between now and August? Either way, if you are unsuccessful in the short-term search, it's possible that we could work out a deal for temporary possession of my trailer, which is sitting in storage in Abilene, Texas, and which I will not be using till the end of the year. I would mainly be concerned about insurance. Just let me know how things are going for you.

corrected

thanks for all the nice replies and corrections.. I am not from the US so I guess I made a couple mistakes.... We have an opportunity to look at a '78 Safari soon and would be interested if there are any weak areas that the experts recommend we pay attention to ...

sneakinup has put together this wondrously helpful checklist, if i can attach it properly: http://www.six55.com/AS/chklst3.htm

if it doesn't work, search for his postings.

Welcome Pat & Bill. I live in Texas and have a 1967 24' that I'm going to sell, but not until mid August and it is more than you've posted for your budget. If you'd like more details you can email or PM me. Good luck in your search and hope to see you on the road sometime

Speaking of the scarcity (and proportional higher value) of the Bambi's, Wee Winds, Caravels and Globe Trotters... here's an idea so blasphemous it may get me kicked off the board: (I dare ya!)

Has anyone here ever thought about cutting down a large Airstream and creating a short one?

Imagine some of the straight-forward steps:
• Removing all furniture
• removing inner skin
• taking body off the frame
• removing excess length and reattaching rear bumper
• removing end sections from side and roof sections
• attaching them to new shorter side and roof sections
• transferring existing windows and door to new side pieces
...and putting it all back together.

Sounds more complicated now that I itemized it... but still, if you could find an already gutted trailer in the upper 20's length, you could have your cute little Airstream for thousands less than street value.

And the best part would be getting to create a whole new model name for your creation! The Airstream Stubby? Airstream Half-pint?

We finally found one!

After months of desperate searching on several websites we finally found a '79 Safari International. Just a few streets away from where we live. Funny enough! It is overall in a pretty good condition as far we can tell right now. Mostly cosmetic touchups it seems. Now beware of the plethora of questions that we novices will have for the forum
