Question Why only two choices?

Why does the gender item in the About Me section of our profiles only allow two choices, "Male" and "Female"? I know there are couples sharing memberships. There should be at least two more choices. "Both" and "MYOB". Perhaps there should be an option not to display it at all.

Both could mean a couple or a transvestite. Maybe it is because one person has to be responsible for the account. There are no group accounts, probably. There should be an option for both though, I agree, and maybe neither as well.

Kind of reminds me of an old Rodney Dangerfield joke. Something about having three kids… one of each!

You're right, "Chastity Bono" who is now "Chaz Bono" would require a "BOTH" option if she/he ever decided to become a member!

Enjoy,

Probably it has more to do with software developers who write the generic forum software. Most forums are a single membership thing and they just assume that most folks would fit into the male of female catagorie. You would need to contact these folks and tell them your concerns. The below is who writes this software.

most folks who are "transgender" do not identify as "both"....so that would be a non issue

I suppose this is my fault for that comment about the Rodney Dangerfield joke, that drew this thread in such a strange direction. So, in an attempt to get it back on track…

In my opinion, the answer to the OP's real question comes down to the fact that it's the "About Me" section of the profile, and not the "About Us" section, as a reason that the options are male/female not male/female/couple.

Sorry - was an attempt at being playfully pedantic

If you don't like the answer options, just leave it blank. We here at Airforums like mysteries now and then.

Ag&Au,

You only have 2 choices, why not Pt or Pd?

You make a fair point and there are likely other members who don't fit neatly in one bin or the other. Until we can arrange a more thoughtful solution perhaps you could change your selection daily or every other day - keep them guessing
