What is an "Active Member"?

I noticed I am a "Community Newbie" and PeterH is an "Active Member". Could you explain the difference? Thanks very much... and thanks for the site!

A member's title appears belowe their name on all of their posts. One of the features of this forum is that a members title changes as they become more active.

Current Member Titles:
Community Newbie (Minimum Posts: 0)
Active Member (Minimum Posts: 5)
Community Guru (Minimum Posts: 100)

Once you have 250 posts or have been a member for 1 year, you can define your own title.

I would like to change these titles to something that is more Airstream realted. Click here to view a thread that has been setup to help decide when & what we should call fellow members.

I just became an active member. I think it is automatic once you have posted 5 times.

ACTIVE MEMEBERS

Just wanted to say, I like the format and features of this board, and hope it is successful. I use yahoo and others as well, it is amazing how much info you can gather from fellow Airstreamers.

what defines "community" or "active member" these days?

a first time poster today wrote....

"I look forward to viewing the Forums with out receiving a zillion requests to introduce myself after I have done so!"

this started me thinking (insert munch painting the scream here)

ok folks what, in your view defines this community?

that is, other than the sheet metal and rivets and sealant....

here is a little data for those that might find it useful....

zero posts......13,150 members
one post..........2,400 members
two posts.........1,100 members
three posts.........700 members
four posts...........450 members
five posts...........350 members
6-10 posts..........900 membersso

that's 19,000 members with 10 or fewer posts

11-50 posts............1,350 members
51-100 posts.............350 members
101-250 posts............250 members
251-500 posts............100 members
>than 500 posts.........170 members

also there are 1000s who have not logged in for 2 years or more...

of course 'community' isn't defined just by post count....

for me it's the opportunity to meet and camp with those who exchange ideas, solutions, information, humor and photos...

or to exchange notes with folks meet while camping.

and yes many come here for buying information, another brick in the community center....

folks who come here just to view/read matter and certainly many don't log in for this....

still, 13,000 without a single post?

it seems to be a small widely spaced nucleus of members that stack up here...

what are your views on how to define this community?

cheers

2air, you've been haunting the archives lately!

Wow, you're going to get a wide range of responses with 22000 members.
Wait - 13000 of them have never posted...

This forum provides me with a number of things.
Information about my trailer that has saved me a ton of money and at times saved my behind.
Intertainment
companionship
Trip planning, reviews on locations and campsites
humor
etc.
etc.

Dave

You are the only one who see's the warning box. It does not show up anywhere else. As the moderators do their moderating and find offensive or inappropriate posts they remove them from the forum, while doing so they may issue warnings to forum members. This is pretty serious stuff. Most of the time you will get e PM informing you of improper posting. But if fill up your warning meter you will be BANNED FOREVER! Well maybe.

The warn meter can only be viewed by you and the moderators. 99%+ of members will never see anything but 0% there. Occasionally a member will do something against the rules, and a corrective action by the moderators is needed. One of the corrective measures is to "warn" the member. If this is done, it subtly reminds the member they have done something wrong. There are several "notches" on the warn meter, but they don't stay "warned" forever. Every 120 days one of the notches will disappear if no further infractions have occurred, eventually returning to 0%.
If your warn meter gets to 80% or 100%, obviously you are in serious trouble, and one or more things may happen to you. Usually at 80%, you would get placed in "moderation", which means each new post would have to be approved by a moderator before being able to be viewed. At 100%, your account will be suspended, either temporarily, or permanently, depending on the offenses, and previous history.
A temporary banishment could be for a long-time member with hundreds or thousands of posts, and no problems at all, that suddenly lashes out with a series of nasty posts. They could be suspended for a day, week, month, or longer.
A permanent banishment could be for a member that has been a habitual offender, or a spammer.

ok folks

just yesterday my 'warn meter' dials back to zero...

i finally get the ankle bracelet off

and i'm free to walk in sunlight 'round the compound.

me and cool hand luke are gonna play a little catch in the yard later....

yet somehow this active member thread gets hijacked to the warn meter thing....

how coincidental is that ?

don't we have 10 threads on warn meters around here already ?

so ne1 got another thought on post # 5 ?

active members, community, bricks that build and so on?

cheers

Hi
I'm sorry if you thought I was hijacking... I thought it was a related question or I wouldn't have posted

You are welcome. The hijacking is not that big a deal, though if you had 500+ posts under your belt and had asked that question, you would have been sent to the search bar...
