WARNING : Classifieds Cashier Check scheme afoot!

Hi everyone, just wanted to alert all of you hard working 'Real' Forum members... I listed 4 or 5 items in the Classified section this weekend, received a question for three of my items from tomlarmh22@yahoo.com
He requested a final price on each of these items. I emailed him back that He would need to send me his zipcode and I'd be happy to calculate the shipping and final price. I received an e-mail from Tom Larmh @ Airstream Classifieds.com... Each of these items are under $100 and if he purchased all three would fit in a shipping box. His email today Said " He really wanted to purchase this 'UNIT' and he had a shipper to come and pick it up. He would be paying by check..... Does all this sound familular ???
So even this very safe venue for selling our classic items and parts, has taken a turn to the dark side.... Beware ! Hope this is an ok post, as this is my first posting, but I felt I wanted to warn everyone ...

Same thing happened to me with the same guy and same email trying to buy parts. address.tomlarmh22@yahoo.com and another on I have deleted.. When I called him on tthe scam Several emails were exchanged. He wanted my address and phone of which he didnt get. He wanted to pay with certified check (old scam). Finally, AFTER ALL HIS EXCUSES AND BULL**** I told him if he didnt have a driver with cash or use with Paypal he needed to move on. That was the last I heard from the bast**d.. NOTHING WORSE THAT A LYING CROOK!! If it walks like a duck........

Sorry this has happened. tomlarmh was banned on October 12th. Every day we check new members out and try to nab such folks promptly. But they work fast and get their emails out to any number of classifieds. Thank you for exercising some experience and caution!

What you experienced were the initial feelers of a cashier check scam. A Nigerian scam is different -- that's the email we all have received from the poor family of a sacked prime minister or royalty -- and they need our seemingly small contribution to free up family riches, for which you'd receive an ample reward.

This thread was begun in the 'Forum How-To's & Support' subforum -- where only a few listings down the page is my thread Savvy Classifieds advice. Thank goodness you folks are very aware of the potential for abuse and fraud!
