While you are tweaking, how about making it easier to start a new thread. I haven't figured out how to start any new threads since the site was revamped many months ago. How about a button "Start New Thread."
I also agree that I don't find start date to be of any use. I much prefer the type and year of unit as well as hometown.

Reason: delete repetitive word
I kinda like the join date thing. It give me an idea of how newbie the poster is. I also like the number of posts there. Some people are members and just lurk, but they are veterans of some years.
Knowing how long someone has been a member of the forum allows those of us who have been here a while some insight on answering questions more effectively for the newbie because we then know that they have not had the chance to have researched the Forum, and may not know how to search for threads, and they may be in crisis mode desparate for information, and thus we who are Vets of the Forum can better help them if we know that they just got here.
I say keep the join date. We need to be especially kind to our newest members.
So. . .can we make everyone happy? 1. location 2. Make/yr of A/S 3. Join date 4. rivets, of course! and # of posts. I like it all. But then, I like just about everything about this forum

I really miss the hometown. It makes what they are saying mean more if you know where they live. Sometimes it doesn't make much sense when you are sitting in 10 degree weather and it's 75 where they are.
Add my name to list of those who could care little about "Join Date" below Avatar, and would much prefer knowing what the members own or if they're looking for something, or where they're from...
New members advertise that fact, and anyone here more than 3 months is equally "established.."
If moderators feel "Join Date" is of value, then perhaps a poll of members to see what majority would like to appear..

p.s. I REEAAALLLY Love this site, and comment above is not meant in a negative or critical way...
Not only am I going to agree with JBMcG, but I want to emphasize John's "p.s." and tell him that I use his quote on a regular basis at work!

Is the new format going to be links to attached images instead of thumbnails?
I really liked the thumbnail approach because I didn't have to click the little pic to get an idea of the BIG PIC unless I wanted to see the LARGE SIZE.
When all that is shown is a link to an attached image, it slows down the surfing having to click pic links to pics that waste time because a thumbnail would have been enough.
I just upgraded to a the newest version of software. Working on lotsof tweaks now. Look for a new photo system, new features in the left column and other fixes.
Andy, you’ve done a wonderful job in creating and maintaining this forum; however, I now have to scroll back & forth sideways in order to see everything on the page. I would rather see a format made to fit the screen where I would only need to scroll down on the page. I know that by changing the screen resolution it can be viewed somewhat differently. I keep my screen resolution on 800 X 600.
I am working on a fix for that. I have a trouble ticket opened about one issue and it should resolve that issue.
I am going to design the site to look as good as possible for those on 800 x 600 but it might seem a little cramped. There are a few things that we could change to save horizantal release estate, like changing the user info to above posts rather then at the left. Also I am going to figure out a way to offer a nearly banner free interface where contributing members can have a streamlined interface with the option of turning the left column off, etc...
In order to prevent side scrolling (temporary fix) just click the buttons to hide the quick reply box. I will try and find out why the quick replay is not resizing right.. then post the back here.
Just to note, I prefer the user info to the left. I find it easier to read down the page without having to visually hop over the user info every time. I have another forum where they do it like that, and it's a bit annoying.
Good job with the updates. They're looking pretty good to me, but I must have a high enough resolution to avoid the scrolling issues.
