Trying to submit an ad

I sent in an ad today (2pm EST) but it hasn't appeared yet. Is this a normal delay or did I screw up? Thanks!

Hi micaberry -- welcome to the forums. Ads should appear within a minute or less of your submission. The biggest reason for failure to load is too-large photo attachments. Please resize your jpeg photos to no larger than 600 pixels dimension on a side (eg, 450 x 600 pixels for standard 3:4 ratio images). For whatever reason, you will need to resubmit your ad. Sorry.

What operating system does your computer run?

Hi Bermshot. Hopefully Mac users will pipe in if that's what you have.

But on a PC, right click on the photo file. A menu will drop down; go down to 'Open with..' and you will see some programs that can open that type of file. Not all can modify the file; eg, if it shows a browser -- IE or FF -- they can't do it. But one of the other programs probably has some ability to resize. You'll have to open a few and poke around.

A warning -- once you edit an image file, only use 'Save As' or else you will overwrite your original photo file and lose it. All you'll be left with is the downsized file and you may not want that. To repeat -- don't use 'Save.' Use 'Save as' if you want to keep your original image as-is.

If it's a fairly recent version of windows, there are free tools from Microsoft as part of the "Windows Live" suite. "Windows Live Photo Gallery" has components that let you pretty easily resize and otherwise alter photos and it's a free download from Microsoft.

If it's a fairly recent Mac, iPhoto would be the way to go if you're asking this question in the first place.

I use Windows XP "image resizer" on the power toys page. Small, simple, works good every time.

Mac Photo Resizing Software

Mac users can resize photos in either iPhoto or Preview. Instructions to resize in Preview (which is installed on the computer with the Mac OSX operating system) appear at this link:

Three Other Easy Ways To Resize Your Photos On A Mac

Photo resizing software for the Mac can also be downloaded from the internet (both free and paid options exist). Try this link:

Resize Photos : Free Download Mac Software
