Buying a used Airstream can sometimes become a regional or national quest. We have hundreds of members willing to help with the legwork. Volunteer inspectors can help take the guesswork out of a long distance purchase.
We put together a trailer inspector checklist to help AIR members. Our membership list can be sorted to find volunteer inspectors who may be able to help prospective buyers with long distance purchases.
Inspectors can download this blank checklist, print it and take it along to an inspection or e-mail a completed one to the buyer to save time.
Good luck hunting

This is great information. Thank you!
I have one question. I am currently looking to buy a 1984 Sovereign in Michigan. Weather is still nice here. The owner told me that the unit has been winterized and therefore could not show me that the heat/ac works. I've never owned an Airstream before but it does not make sense to me that the "Heat" would be winterized. Any thoughts?
This is a great and extremely helpful forum! Just wanted to say thank you from Los Angeles. We are still looking and with some luck will find one soon. Grammy Gail
Thanks for supplying this checklist. Exactly what I need as I am considering purchasing a 1979 Airstrean Land Yacht Sovereign. It is my first purchase and I don't want to be foolish!
If anyone has any comments about this model. I welcome your comments!
Just to know if the inspectors have to be paid or simply we have to pay them or is it only to serve a good cause for the community and they do that for free ?
I'm in this kind of situation where we ask me to tow an Airstream ( 500mi) : free or to pay ?
I surely wouldn't ask someone to tow anything for me for 500 miles without thinking I should pay them to do so. I know I wouldn't tow for anyone (maybe my parents or children) for 500 miles without expecting some kind of payment. The wear and tear on your vehicle as well as the time (which in the US is $) warrants some kind of pay in my opinion!

Free or pay is a personal choice. Most people will probably inspect a trailer for free. Towing a trailer is a little different situation. I don't think it's unreasonable to be payed for fuel and any fees or tolls on road. Make sure that everyone involved is in agreement with whatever terms you have before you tow for them and that your covered for any liability while towing. Good Luck!
I have offered my services as an inspector close to our home and I do not expect payment. we used an inspector when we bought our unit and we sent him a thank you gift, however this is not at all usual or customary. Mark the airstream guy is very nice he charges 1 dollar a mile to tow. Just for your info.
I am new to the forums and have yet to purchase an Airstream, but we are actively looking! On this site I noticed the list of inspection points but not the inspectors (and their locales) themselves? Am I missing something? And can you point me in the right direction? Because there are very limited trailers on the west coast, we'll likely have to buy one from the midwest or east coast and it would be terrific to have someone take a look for us prior to offering a down payment. If we need to hire an inspector, that would be fine, too (if anyone knows of any). Thanks for any and all help!
YOu have it wrong many more trailers on the west coast. YOu just need to look or go to some large rallies there are always some for sale. May 16=May 17 Pismo has a large vintage rally.

Hi Pam, You can find an Airstream in the Pac NW. Just be patient and keep a sharp eye out. Found both my trailers within an hour of home.
On the Portal page to the right near the top is the box for trailer inspectors. Just input the state and what type of inspector your looking for.
