Time out?

Is there an auto time out while using this forum. I open separate windows and if I check email or go to another site and come back to the window with the forum open I always have to log in, is that normal?

Yes, there is a timeout after approx 12-15 minutes of inactivity. This even affects mods depending on coverage/who's signed in.

Members engaged in composing long posts may find that they lose the post once they click 'Submit Reply.' The suggestion is to compose in a simple wordprocessor like Notepad and then cut and paste. Or use Firefox -- you can back up to the screen before being timed out.

hmmm. I have three or four windows open at the same time, and I go back and forth and in and out of the house without ever signing out, and I never have that problem. Sometimes I leave for hours and when I come back, the forums are still there and open. Maybe it has to do with the individual setup on the computer. In fact I never have to sign in even when I shut off the computer and start it the next day. I do have the forums in my favorites so maybe that's why.

The computer settings are one reason, also if you have the "remember me" button checked when you sign in, and the computer can hold its' cookies, you then don't have to log in.

I do have that. Once I am signed it I rarely ever have to sign in again to anything. Except Yahoo makes me sign in every couple of weeks.

If you automatically log in you will not notice it.

Thank-you all.
I will try the auto log and see if that helps.
