Lightbulb Subscribing to forums/threads for email notification.

One of the best features of these forums is the ability to subscribe to an entire forum or an individual thread. When a post is submitted to the forum/thread you have subscribed to you will be notified via email!

When you post a thread, there is a check box that allows you to subscribe to that thread. If you select it, every time a reply is submitted you will be notified via email. This is great if you have a hard to find part that may take weeks/months for a reply to get posted. You do not need to keep checking the boards to see if a reply has been posted. If you subscribed you will be notified via email as soon as the thread has been responded to.

If you want to subscribe to a thread you did not start, simpily select the link near the bottom of the page that says "subscribe to this Thread".

Subscribing to a forum is different than subscribing to an individual thread. A forum includes many threads. You can subscribe to a forum by clicking the "Subscribe to this forum" link on the upper right of the page. This option is good for the Model & Year Knowledgebase forums.

Example #1: You may be interested in all the threads that get posted about a 1956 Caravel, no matter what the topic.

Example #2: There are lots of Airstream parts specialist subscribing to the parts forum and they will be notified every time you submitt a request for parts. This means that you should hopefully recieve a quick response! If you are a parts supplier this willprovide you instant notification of sales leads!

Now these notifications can become a real pain if the thread is fairly active! You can manage all the forums/threads you are subscribed to by going to your User Control Panel (user cp). To get to your User Control Panel, select the button at the top of the page that says "user cp". Or click here!

You can also set the forum to use email notification by default when you post a thread. This is done in your options page. Go to you User Control Panel and then select "Edit Options" and look for the Default Notification feature there. You can turn it off or on.

Hope this helps!

Another use for Subscribe to..???

Andy I have just discovered this and want to use it to keep a log of threads that I consider important to me in one way or another.

But I do not want to be notified each time one of my subscribed to threads is posted to.

I also do not want to give up the ability of others to e-mail me thru the forums.(at least until the privacy question of another thread is answered)
http://www.airforums.com/forum...0423#post80423

If I check no to the "Let admins & moderators e-mail me" option
will I achieve what I want above?
>>> Update: that doesn't seem to do it. I have had that toggle switch on NO and I am finding the notifications in my mail.

Is there any limit of the number of threads one can subscribe to?

Another feature that was in the upgrade

If you subscribe to a thread now you have a choice of how you want to be notified that there is a new post. There is a choice for no notification.

If you use the subscription method you can log in, go to your user CP and see the threads that you have subscribed to. Only threads with posts will show, but you can show all your subscribed threads too. I have not tested it but there is not a limit that we can set in the background as to how may you can subscribe to.

I use the default thread subscription mode which appears in the options settings. Any post I make automatically subscribes me to the thread. One of the nice things is that the notification to my email account also has the text of the message on the forum built into the email plus a hyperlink back to the thread.

Note that this option will only notifiy you of the first new message since you were last on the forum thread. If 5 new messages appear in the thread, you will be notified of the first. Once you access the thread, a subsequent message will again alert you through your email.

I've seen no limitation on the number of threads I am subscribed to....

I do not think there is any limit to subscriptions.

You can change your settings very easily from this link:
http://www.airforums.com/forum...ewsubscription
(which is part of your user control panel, link at the left hand side)

The default is on so that new members that might not know when to check back or even how to find their thread again will be notified with a link.

Hello,
Is it possible to subscribe to a thread that you do not reply to?

Hi, another question - I just posted the last message, and didn't see anywhere on my screen where to subscribe to this thread. What am I missing?
Thanks!

When you click on the post reply button and get the screen for posting, you should get an option at the bottom of the page that has a thread subscription box, which is already set to indicate "instant email notification" make sure this is selected.

I am subscribed to a number of threads and have NEVER received an email notice of a new posting.

The way I have used the subscription is to go to my "User CP" page and look up the list of subscribed threads so I can see if there is anyting new.

I subscribed by going to the "thread tools" at the top of the thread. Is there something I missed when I subscribed that way, so that I don't get the notice?

yes.

1. open the thread of choice.
2. locate 'thread tools' tab at upper right of page, above the top post.
3. choose 'subscribe to this thread' option...

bingo!

follow the same sequence for a currently subscribed thread and #3 will read 'unsubscribe to this thread'

That is exactly what I do to subscribe to a thread and I have NEVER gotten a notification.

Under my User CP options I have it set for daily notification. I just rechecked - and still no notification

hi uluwene...

my reply was directed to the question in the current post (#6) was 'how to subscribe'

sure the title of thread includes more, and i see your question about notifications...

but it was 5>3 years old until the bump today...

so it's a zombie thread!

i suspect 'email notification' is covered somewhere in the user preferences...

and i recall reading somewhere it was spotty at best...

i'm not looking for it...

and i sure don't want ANY email notification of threads...

cheers

I am getting my notifications, but since the change in domain name to Airforums, the "link" in the notification doesn't work as a hyperlink. I have to copy the link and paste it in the address bar of the browser to go to the thread. When I do this I go to the reply in the notification. Is there something I need to set in my browser or on the forums so that the links will work?

email notification

Hi All, since last server upgrade I am not getting all of my email notifications. Preferences are set accordingly in CP.

Am I the only one or is there a system issue?

Thanx, Bill
