Search Team

Ok I need help, well and besides that, I need search help. 2Air, you will probably have ten threads you can post to this for me to reference but I DID do a search on search! I do a search on lots of threads I know are there and find endless pages of unrelated stuff. So what's the trick to getting what you want out of the search engine? I can not even get thread titles as an exact match out of her anymore on simple search, what gives?

Any tips tricks and the obvious unbeknownst to me will be appreciated.

I use Google to do a site search.

At the google search bar type:

"desired topic" site:airforums.com

My Google search for water heater replacement would look like this:

airforums "water heater replacement"

I have recently begun using the advanced search on the forums as well. You can narrow the search down to one forum such as Skins, etc.

2air seems to have the process down, I'll look forward to his technique...

hi c'

i'm not sharing any secret tricks in this post and for FREE!

it helps to have spent a fair amount of time in large libraries, card catalogs and just wandering around in the 'stacks' looking for gems.

but here's a bakers' dozen 4 ya....

there are a few USEFUL tips n tricks buried in the strings above...

along with the google approach (i never use it) and lots of whining (i do use this)

so read 'em and practice!

it helps to get creative with the search term sometimes, for example search 'disappearing' and a few not listed above will pop up...

so c' what topic are you trying to find?

cheers
2air'

hey fryz'....

i have noticed your recent answers have been including links, GOOD JOB!

it pays to read some of the threads IF u are gonna link 'em...

because you can check to see if the threads is relevant to the original question and learn something about the topic in the process...

it's sort of like a game thread (where's waldo, or...Scattergories) sometimes!

Thanks Steve Dave and 2Air. OK I did my homework and read all of these.

I picked up some nice tips on limiting results by not being too common. I will limit my subforums and look for a poster and Canoe Stream's tip to sort by relevance. I liked Roger's idea too about saving links to a document.

I'm also going to give google a whirl because outside of the forum I have had good sucess with it. I did not know I could use google to search the forums.

Sometimes I go to members list and read back into their posts. My biggest problem has been with relevance and limiting results so I will try with renewed vigor.
