Search function broke?

If I do an advanced search for "Florida domicile", I get threads and posts where one or both of those words are not present in any post in the thread.

What gives?

No wonder I've had such bad luck searching this forum in the last six months.

the search feature is a POS. I recomend that you use google and limit the search using the site feature. For example, to seach for florida domicile, you would enter florida domicile site:airforums.com

Good luck!

Hi Gold -- You started this thread in the 'How-To's & Support' forum area. There's a sticky thread 4th from the top on that list that describes Rodney's technique further -- http://www.airforums.com/forums/f138...rum-37729.html. Rodney first brought the better Google technique to the mods' attention; I believe member TomW raised it first overall AFAIK.

Search usefulness on the current edition of Forums' vBulletin software almost is limited to single key words. Problems with search at least make it useful when you 'advanced' search:
  • if you know who may have posted on a subject
  • know a specific word that was in the thread title
  • are looking for a specific post within long threads
  • I'm sure I use it other ways too... I use it for > 75% of my searches surprisingly.

I can claim absolutely no credit, I just spread the info where I can.

spreading info or manure?

advanced search works fine...

but ANY tool is a POS in the right hands.

you cannot do multi word searches easily (and it really isn't necessary)...

florida is way too common as a term here.

there are ONLY 30 posts total with the 'd' word...

including the 1st 2 posts in this thread...

that's a pretty short list of posts to scan for something relevant (68 seconds to glance at them all)...

but LIMIT the search to the full timers forum and now there are 16 posts TOTAL to read...

here they are....

http://www.airforums.com/forums/sear...archid=1055696

establishing residence, regardless of state isn't just a 'streamers issue....

so if ya wanna use google skip the entire air connection completely...

and search 2 or 3 key works that all must appear or that appear in sequence.

but online 'term' searching for residency or 'd issues is sloppy regardless of the approach...

every state has a web site on this topic.

so IF florida is your bag, just look here....

Florida Department of Revenue home page

cheers

Hi canoe

I searched for "search help" but it didn't work, so I missed that popst. ha ha

Just joking.

By the time I got frustrated at all the negative hits (search results that included results that shouold not have been included) I stopped reading and started speaking (so to speak).

Still, a great forum here.

tks all.
