Problem staying connected

Recently I've been having a problem staying connected to the forum. I'll be viewing a thread when everything stops functioning. I see the thread and the computer is trying to re-connect, but Windows cannot recover it. Then I get the message shown in the screenshot displayed below. It seems to be a problem with the forum's equipment or for some reason I am being disconnected on purpose. This happens only with the Airstream Forum, no other websites.

Anyone else having this problem?

This happens quite frequently when I am on the forum with my iPod. I will be viewing a thread. All of a sudden it dumps me off.
The other problem I have is;. If I view a thread. It disappears from the list and I can't go back to it until the next day. Where does it go?

I had that happen- if you view the "timeline" it doesn't happen to me- and you get a much longer list of recent threads than you get on the portal using a browser.

Huh, this is what we did to correct this. We have a droid tablet and a laptop we do all our internet stuff on, banking et al. So, we set up a home VPN, which we log into on the tablet and then wireless connect the computer to the laptop and it is then exactly as if we were home connected wireless to our Fios.

Now to be honest "we" my wife and I did not set up the VPN, our son who is a network administrator and program analyst set it up for himself at home and he then set up our laptop so our banking would be more secure when on the road.

We no longer drop anything.

I am having the same problem with desk top PC. It usually comes back on quickly but can happen several times before I give up and go back to watching the TV.

For those of us having connectivity issues, it might be beneficial to send a note to the webmaster to get attention brought to the problem.
Use the "contact us" tab at the bottom of the page.

Try another browser, such as Chrome (my personal favorite) or Firefox.

I have no problem maintaining a connection using Chrome on Macs and PCs (Windows 7). I generally avoid using Internet Explorer wherever possible.

I'll second the advice on IE, but I HATE Chrome. It loaded my machine up with toolbars and other "accessories" that my anti-virus kept alarming on and I couldn't delete.

I like Firefox.

I had to switch to Firefox because IE had gotten so slow. Also, at some point it was not upgradeable since I was running XP. IF you are not running the latest version or only one or so back, it can get confused with some of the new features on web sites.

I have never experienced that problem with either my new ASUS/Win 8.1 laptop or my IPad Air. I have had lockups that I attribute to ads loading in the side pane.

Just because Windows says the site is malfunctioning, it could be the site providing the ads or a communications problem anywhere in between.

I have tried to replicate this problem, the only way I have gotten it to do what yours is doing is on an old Vista machine with IE9, it appears to be a security issue of some sort in the IE browser. I have not had any other browser/OS combination to do it and I have tried the 3 major OS and several different browsers. I typically DON'T use IE. I prefer Chrome, as far as the comment about excess toolbars and such in Chrome, you have to watch what you download and DO NOT allow "standard" installation of stuff. I always go to the custom install setting and make sure it is only installing what I want. If it won't allow me to choose what I want I go elsewhere.

Hmmm... I suspect that some malicious site got control of your Chrome installation, because I've been running Chrome for years and haven't had that experience on any platform, but I never allow any site to install any toolbars because a) I don't trust them and b) they waste my screen real estate. I spend a fair amount of time disabling/uninstalling toolbars from my mom's computer every time I touch it, neither she nor her husband USE any of them, but they'll apparently let it install any old thing. They use Firefox for their toolbar-riddled experience, by the way, so I don't think it's either browser's fault.

I don't like Chrome. I tried it a while and switched back to IE.

I have had very little trouble with either my iPad or my office desktop while on the forum.

I get an add for an app to use on my iPad, it's supposed to make using the forum even better, but when I try to load it, it drops out.

Oh well, I guess I don't need it, anyway.

Its fast. No problem with connectivity now! Pop ads are gone .

I'm sold! IE is history. Chrome is gone.

Alan,

That's just weird. I use Firefox on my Win 8 laptop and Safari on my iPad Air with no problems, except for the occasional slowdown. I don't think I have ever seen that message.

Something in your antivirus? Try turning it off for a few minutes and see what happens.
