posting profile pic

I've tried to post a profile pic. The first time, I changed the image size to 395 pixels wide and a finished file size of 98 kb. When posting, I got an image failed to post message.

I then scaled the image size down to 200 pixels wide (much less in height) and 53 kb in file size, reposted, and got the same message.

Can anyone help?

Hopefully a Moderator will address this question....I had the same problems too. Are you using a Mac or a PC?

What is the file format you are trying to load? I just ran some tests and was able to upload both jpgs and gifs...

I've just tried uploading two different images to a test account with standard membership credentials. One was 398 x 400 pixels, 316 KB. The other was 390 x 260 pixels, 63.2 KB. I did this both from my PC and my wife's Mac laptop. It loaded smoothly and without difficulty each time.

I did observe an unexpected reaction though. I chose a file to upload and then clicked 'Save Changes'. The edit window then looked exactly the same as before I saved changes but I clicked the username in upper right corner of the screen to view the profile page -- the profile pic appeared as it should. Before going to view the profile page, if I clicked 'Save Changes' a second time I got a dialog that stated 'Upload of file failed' even though the pic was added to the profile page the first time.

I wouldn't exactly call that a glitch - it just doesn't want to load a profile pic when one already is there.

Check your profile page -- anything there?

gecko & arktos55353 -- you each have a profile pic on your profile pages.

Maybe they've confused the profile pic and avatar, and are expecting to see it on their posts? I remember that tripping me up.

Avatar uploading is limited to 80 x 80 pixels. The image size mentioned suggests that they are following instructions to work within the profile max of 400 pixels.

My supposition was that they expected the profile picture to show up in their posts (which is actually the avatar) rather than just in the profile. That's the mistake I made initially.

Thanks Lewster and Sergei

Thanks everybody! Yes, thought that the profile picture was the avatar. This cleared everything up.
