Our problems have also been noted on the moderators private forum that Andy communicates to us on. He sees our notes even though the topic could roll off the main page. No danger of these problems getting forgotten. We want these issues resolved as much as you do.

I disagree.

I identified a minor issue which I reported to a Moderator via a PM. I was thanked, and advised that the issue would be forwarded to a "special" area of Moderator concerns that the Webmaster would be sure to see.

After a week or so of no joy, I sent a PM to the Webmaster asking if there were extenuating circumstances preventing him from acting on my concern. He replied rather quickly with a "what are you talking about?" response. I then directed him to a particular thread where concerns had been raised. Within 15 minutes, the concern had been resolved.

Badgering Andy with PMs does not strike me as a good idea. But keeping a "Forum Concerns" thread at the top of list does.

Other issues

The "insert hyperlink" feature is not working. This may have been mentioned before. It's becoming a bit difficult to keep track of the issues that have been reported here and on other threads.

The "Advanced Search" feature does not allow more than 12 characters in the User Name you want to search, making it impossible to use that tool for anyone with more than 12 characters in their handle (our host Organic Hosting included).

Rog, I think hyperlink is ok. Here is a hyperlink to our local unit's website.

Greater St. Louis Unit

What kind of problem are you having?

Smilies menu have now completely disappeared from my screen. Just as well since they didn't work anyway.

When I click on the "insert hyperlink" icon, I get nada. The small window does not appear.
In fact, I note now that none of the buttons at the top are working for me in this reply.

What kind of browser are you using? What operating system? I think if we are reporting problems that would be a help. Im using Explorer 6.0.29 with XP Professional Service pack 2 + all patches. At home I'm using the same release of Explorer with XP Home Service pack 2 + all patches.

Somewhere in all this tangled mess my feeling is that a lot of the problems are related to the browsers that are being used. It just doesn't make any sense why you would be locked out of this feature, when I can get to it from 2 different computers. My only common thread between my home and work system is that I keep up on the Microsoft patches. They have been releasing at least one a month for the past several months.

We tried Mozilla here at work and I finally dumped it because I had too many problems with features not working or with applications here at work which have web based interfaces that weren't working properly.

Win98SE with IE6.0 and all service packs.
None of the "gimmicks" are working. All I am able to do is type the reply in plain font.

Wait a minute! I see now that the smilie menu is now in a drop down menu above the message window with the other formatting buttons. And they WORK!!! I haven't had them in weeks. So gald they are back!

Thanks to Andy for working to fix the smilies and everything else.

Jack, I just went in to my UserCP/Edit Options/Message Editor Interface and switched it from basic to enhanced. Now the smilies and other stuff works. I wonder if others might want to try this as a temporary fix if they're having the same problems?

Rog, I'm not sure if this is a temporary fix rather than being the option which needs to be turned on. I also use the WYSIWYG editor option. It's quite possible that on the new upgrade, folks need to make sure that the proper boxes are checked. I think you found your problem and would suggest that others exhibiting the same problems take your advice. I checked my options and they were checked. That's probably why I haven't experienced these problems.

Thanks for going the extra mile!

I think the major problems that are beyond user settings are the inability to start new threads, loss of posts, and slow response time.

Jack

I just discovered something interesting when I started a new thread moments ago. As is normal course-of-action, I copied the text of the new message to the clipboard before previewing it. The message looked fine so I clicked the "post" button. Some sort of error message, to the effect that "today is not your day" advised me that all was lost.

Fine. I went back to the same forum, pasted the message, and posted it without preview. Now everyone is being encouraged to add their personal Airstream web page in the links directory.
