My problem or the forum...
For a couple of days I have found recurrent sloooooooooooowness when trying to navigate through a thread or among posts. I'm not savvy enough about computers to determine if the problem is with my computer or if there is a problem going on with the forum for which I missed some announcement. When I try to page through a thread, the screen changes unusually slowly and I find messages at the bottom of the screen saying: waiting for AS forums... or Done but with error on page. The "waiting for" message comes on, goes off, comes on again several times. Any advice, please, and thanks in advance. ~G

I have had some of those issues you describe but not recently.
In fact, this week has been really good with forum viewing, & posting, etc.
Maybe some of the pc experts can recommend some tweaking on your settings.

I can report your issue - but I think we've been mostly OK this week.
If you are ever unsure try going here InternetFrog.com: Network Tools, Internet Speed Test and Website Tools
and trying a speed check. You can figure out if your internet connection has slowed down. Eliminating this variable may help you decide if the issue is at your end or ours.

Mine has been kinda unpredictable. It's either 'right now' or refresh to get it. Of course my web provider, Dubai.com, could be the issue today...
(lets see who has CNN as their home page)

Wait for me! Mine was just below 29kbps! The phone company still uses kite string for wire out where we are. No cable is available. Satalite is available.....pay for satalite......or pay for camping??? I will sleep on that one.

I have noticed a slight pause when I open page as well.
My download speed averages 5+ Mbps.

Try Open DNS
This may help. I was having problems and solved them by using Open DNS. Follow the instructions, it is free and has solved all of my issues with page reloads and speed. Your mileage may vary.

Page not found errors getting through any links from portal & 49 seconds to load this page. It's irritating to watch the advertising stat counters and ad image refreshes slow the process down - it may be transparent on broadband but on dial-up it's like getting mugged on the way to the library..

I agree with the original poster. Things are slower...and snails pace at times. Its been a recent thing...but better today....for the most part. But slower than it was a while ago. It is the internet and I get tired of fixing it.

Ditto. But 65 seconds though? You sure? I didn't close my browser though. I hit page reload a couple times, knew something was up. I tried a couple other things but the 65 seconds of fame were over pretty quickly.

I've been noticing it, too. It seems to be the ad servers, taking a looong time to refresh. Even just hitting the back button, the pages take time to load...not sure its supposed to be that way.
and I have a T3 at work...super-fast broadband at home...clicking "back" should bring up the preceeding page instantaneously.

I run a mixed environment network at my home Mac and PC normally 3 to 5 machines on line at least 2 24/7. I had a problem with my new iMac losing sites and slow page response across the board and slow updates on other machines I switched to the open DNS and I now have quick response. I am not seeing slow response from the site. The site has become so commercial and he has it so split up into several sites when a page updates it is hard to tell how many times it may have to hit a DNS server for one page.
I just did a quick look at his source code and here is just one entry of many.
Takes a DNS hit to load it.

The link will not give you an ad just gibberish.
Give it try and see if it helps it may not but it is a start.

I don't see how this would make a difference. DNS info is cached on your local pc...(exactly how much varies by os and ip stack version). at the office, both the proxy and the local dns server (local servers on the LAN...gigabit connection) cache the info. I can do packet traces and see the dns requests hitting these local servers. Even if this wasn't the case, our service is from a "tier 1" provider...it just don't get any faster (in general terms anyway).
Now, I'm not an expert on webservers or coding html, but it seems to me that there is some directive somewhere telling browsers/proxies to "not cache" the info from the ad sites, causing it to be reloaded with every page load.
