Mobile App Change Coming Soon-ish

Some of you may be seeing a slidedown notice for tapatalk (a mobile app). In the next week or so we are going to be changing our app. Please ignore the tapatalk notice for now but in a few days you should see a prompt to install our new app which is based on the tapatalk platform.

We're making this change because we're just not satisfied with the current app; lots of folks have had trouble and we believe this will be an improvement.

Will this be a custom tapatalk app? Or an interface on the server side that talks to regular tapatalk?

Anyone else not like the format of the new app? It just doesn't seem intuitive to me and the layout hurts my eyes. Wish I wouldn't have updated to the new app.

So the updated app is only for iOS so far? Searching the Google Play store only shows the SocialKnowledge version, but the iPad prompted me for the tapatalk thing today.

It is quite different but I'll give it a bit before I decide what I think about it. Still doesn't display avatars properly, but at least it has a usable editing interface after saving a post.

In the iOS app, the display of avatar images seems to be inconsistent from page to page of the ui. E.g. My avatar and some others show on the People page but not on this page.

Also, when looking at the "People" page, selecting someone to view their profile shows an entry for their posts, and it seems like clicking this is supposed to take you to their posts. Instead it just says there are zero posts to display, which seems to be a bug.

What happened to the tabs that were on the bottom. Is there an easy way to see current threads?

Thank you. I suppose that would take a while to get used to that. Doesn't look horrible to me but definitely different. I haven't received the note to change yet.

If you touch the 3 bars in the upper left a menu comes in on the left sidebar. Once you make a selection, it vanishes again. I assume that replaces the tabs at the bottom as I haven't found a way to put them back. For me, the rusty red bar at the top seems to draw my attention to it, but suspect that is only because it is prominent and different, expect it will become less of a distraction in time. The current threads are called timeline now. Not sure what happened to the avatars. Was used to the familiar "faces" but now everyone seems to be a smiling blockhead with X O eyes.... A green dot on the avatar's chin indicates that person is online as in the past.

I did find that changing the font size in the settings table in the side bar did help the readability for me. Age? 😄

Maybe the avatars will come back in a future update. If so, it would also be on my wish list that they be larger as they used to be.

It just appeared on my list of app updates yesterday. Maybe the App Store somehow staggers the announcement so that everyone won't try to download the same thing at at once. If you have updated to IOS 7 and enabled auto updates, it should just appear all by itself and will be quite a surprise for those who haven't followed this thread.

Another thing I just spotted... If you look closely at the top of the thread if you are scrolled to the beginning, there are a couple of tabs at the bottom of the reddish bar, but they don't stand out unless you're looking closely.

I don't like the new app.
I don't like the red.
The avatars don't show up for the most part. Every once in a while an avatar will show up.
I liked the "current" and "participated" buttons at the bottom better.
When typing a long post, it doesn't automatically scroll- you have to scroll down manually to see what you have typed.
I liked the trailer photo when opening the app, but I also like the blue Airforums logo.
I haven't looked at the iPad app- does is still show a 30' trailer in landscape and a short trailer in portrait? I always thought that was neat. I will check it out when I get home this evening.

I liked the old iPhone app better.
My iPad app has not changed. Maybe it is because I have the original iPad that cannot be updated to iOS7?
