and, along that line, how do you stop the iPhone app from notifying about new forum posts? have tried settings, but obviously not finding the right one -
and, how do you stop from being accosted to sign up for notifications (almost) every time you go to classifieds?
thanks!

Managing email notifications
JM2, I think I might be able to answer your question if iPhone.
Go to settings,
Notifications,
Airforum,
And the notification options will display
If you turn Airforums notification off, it drops from the list and I don't know how you would turn them back on if you were so inclined.

Go to "User CP"
Select "Edit Options"
Under "Messaging and Notification" you'll see "Default Thread Subscription Mode"
Change to "No email notification"
You won't get any email notification unless you specifically change it to "Instant" or "Daily" or "Weekly" for the thread in question. I have my default set to "No email notification" but for rally threads pertaining to rallies I intend to attend, I change it to "Instant" on a thread-by-thread basis.
As an aside, you are in a subscribed thread and go to "Thread tools" and select "ignore thread" while staying subscribed to the thread, you can make the thread appear in your "UserCP" but not in "New Posts" whenever someone posts to it. Chalk that one up to "Stupid Thread Tricks"…

So, one thing that you may be running into is this: When you change that setting in your profile, it does NOT change existing subscription notifications, so a thread you subscribed to before you changed that setting. You can see if that's the case by clicking "List Subscriptions" on your profile page. Look at your oldest subscription and see if they still list some sort of notification like "Daily" or "Instant". You can select a whole page full of them and at the bottom of the page there's a drop-down box that'll let you set them to "None".
If that's NOT the case, please return here and comment on it (or PM me) and we'll look into it.

I checked all my subsriptions going back to 2013 and all the notification boxes are unchecked. I think this feature is just broken. Oh well.
I noticed last night around 11pm central about 4 or 5 notifications coming in so there is something still set despite what my user settings say. I guess I need to get into debug mode and execute an SQL command to change it.

Easiest fix is, for every thread you get a notification for, simply open that thread, unsubscribe, and then if you still want to follow the thread, resubscribe.
Also, have you subscribed to any sub-forums? You can get notifications for whole sub-forums (usually around midnight eastern time) if you subscribed to them— even if you're not subscribed to any individual threads on that sub-forum. And it's completely independent of the notifications for individual threads. For example, I subscribe to both the "WBCCI" and "Sprinter and B-Vans" subforums, so if there is any activity on either of those sub-forums, I'll get a notification even if the activity is on a thread to which I haven't subscribed.

I see where I screwed up. I failed to understand the check box next the each subscribed thread and next it said None or Daily. So I went page by page and selected all threads on the page and at the bottom of the page moved to no email notification. That should fix it. I'm slow but I get there eventually.
