Select User CP from the menu bar.
Scroll down to the blue bar that says: Latest Karma Received
Your Karma is score is on the right end of that blue bar.

Thanks for the karma thread--learned something new today!

I don't understand this Karma thing either but after reading your posts I went to my CP User page and viola!!! People have sent me karma and I had no idea......thank you, folks, I didn't know about it until today......some of them were from quite a while ago.....so thanks again...

Is there some way to receive a notification of a karma post? paula

I didn't know I had any at all until one day I happened to notice all these messages at the bottom of my CP home page. If there is some type of notification system, I have never noticed it. I have seen people say they were sending Karma to someone in a post, but I don't remember them saying they were sending some to me. Since I found the Karma post on my CP homepage I have sent Karma to others and included a short message with it, but I never knew if that person actually knew I did unless they checked their Karma messages on a regular basis.

So, since I have failed to show my appreciation for the Karma that I have received, I want to take this opportunity to say "thank you" to those who have been kind enough to recognize me on these forums.

treasure freely given

A karma is any action you perform while identifying yourself as the performer of that action.

Or you might just as well heed the words of the Immortal Captain Jack Sparrow: "You know, for having such a bleak outlook on pirates you are well on your way to becoming one: sprung a man from jail, commandeered a ship of the fleet, sailed with a buccaneer crew out of Tortuga, and you're completely obsessed with treasure."

Marcus, karma seems to me a lot like treasure: some folks want it, some folks don't --and any number of variations in between: some want it, but say they don't; some don't want it, but say they do; some have it, but don't believe they do; some don't have it, but believe they do...etc...etc!

In the end seems like we're all, at least speaking for myself, sorta like pirates in one way or another depending upon the concern?

Paula,
I stumbled upon the karma thing in my user CP s few days ago too. I had always seen the give karma button, but did not know what it was for or what it did. Now I know.

Paula,
Under the user's information / avitar at the left hand side of each post there are three icons. On the left is an indicator light letting you know whether or not the user is on-line. In the middle I think there is a set of balances / scales, that's the karma button. On the right is a red bordered triangle with an exclamation point in it, this is used to report a forum member when they have been naughty.

Let your mouse pointer "hover" over the icons and a "tool tip" should pop up letting you know what they are.

Bartender, a round of good Karma for everybody on me.

Remember...give good karma, get good karma...give bad karma, get bad karma.

Nothing wrong with a little Cancer, assuming one is reading their horoscope. Speaking of...

"Your social life is taking a bit today, thanks to a career move or something else that is taking you away from your friends -- temporarily, most likely! Try to roll with it and get back in balance later."

I wonder what this "balance" thing is all about.

But how can one TRULY know the Karma scale?

Is it strickly the Karma points or is it more? Hummm! I mean if a member has fewer Karma points but the ratio of Karma points to posts is higher than a member with more Karma points who has many points - who has the greater Karma? It's like the tree falling in the forest with no one there. If a member has Karma and doesn't know it does he / she really have Karma? Sorry - time to go back into hibernation.

Jaxon,
Naughty might be good outside the forum, but I don't think I want to be thought of or turned in as naughty here. What with all the nice and helpful folks that turn out on the forum I just couldn't bear the thought of being labeled naughty

I have read several threads about Kharma, and found it to be a little confusing. However, I have also come to realized that it is meant to be given as a jesture of thanks by the sender because the receiver has done a perceived kindness. Perhaps offered advice or somehow helped with a problem. So on that note....

Let me state now for the record, that all of you who have felt me worthy of such a gift, Thank You!! I hope I can remain in good standing to remain worthy.

This reminds me of another question.
If a man speaks in the forest, and his wife is not there to hear, is he still wrong?

Back on the karma question - and now I'm serious (for a change).
Is karma only related to religion? Or maybe it was - but has now evolved into something else in general society?
Not to stray into the "prohibited" topic of religion - this is about karma.

no and yes.

the basic notion and views are part of everyday life for many common people world wide.

but the origins, and primary tenants are STILL critical aspects of several of the worlds religions.

it's a bit like asking are "prayer, sin, heaven and hell" judeo-christian or secular concepts...

almost all religious concepts and practices have secular counterparts or are used and mangled in our secular world.

read the wiki (as a start) on these issues and note the 'western adapations' and some of the external links...

Karma

Avatar

these two concepts are just SO rich and involved and essential in many lives, that it's sad to see them mangled and misused here...

we are a generally intelligent and detail oriented group here, so why not apply the same rigor to our forum culture...

our token approval system only adds to the misunderstanding of the concepts.

as every time someone asks "what is k?" we perpetuate the misuse.

we could give...

-polish (some one sent me 'nuvite approvatal' today (thanks m'mate)
-shine
-buff
-rivets
-wally hats

and so many other creative and a/s related terms could be used and add to the fun...

and since the definitions are MADE UP here anyway and as needed...

picking terms that DON'T have special meanings from the worlds religions,

might fit better, with our secular hobby.

a change like THAT would be a nice example of collective karma at the forum level...

cheers

The philosophical explanation of karma can differ slightly between traditions, but the general concept is basically the same. Through the law of karma, the effects of all deeds actively create past, present, and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to him/her and others. The results or 'fruits' of actions are called karma-phala.

I lifted that from Wiki, so you all do not have to look.... Sounds like what we have here on the forums... I personally think it fits well.

And to all that sent me some, it has come back to most, I reached my gifting limit and will resume tomorrow.
