I think I found it. Go to User CP and if you have Karma that has a comment, there will be a blue section (like the time/date bar that separates posts) that reads "Latest Reputation Received" has a "## points" total in that line.

Karma going out for the hint (MarkJoanDoll)!

Oh no!!! I can't give Janet Karma. PM Karma doesn't exist. The normal Karma doesn't either. I get a message that I need to spread Karma around. I'll try to capture the message.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Janet again.

General info about Karma...

Here is how it works.

You earn karma power by:
- 1 point for each year of membership
- 1 point for each 250 posts
- 1 point for every 50 karma points you earn

The amount of karma you earn is based on the karma power the person giving you karma has. So if I have a karma power of 8 and give you good karma then your karma increases by 8 points.

Here are other rules
- you can only give 10 people karma per day
- you have to give 10 different people karma before you can give the same member karma again
- all members have 10 karma points by default
- If a member has less then 5 karma points their "karma hits" do not count towards any other members until they get their karma back above 5.
- a member must post at least once before their "karma hits" count toward other. So if a member has never posted, they can still leave karma but it wont have any effect on the user.

I'll keep trying. I feel like I'm giving. I'll get there and share it then!

It is better than having -44. And another dose for you, while I am at it...

I look at karma points as times I have helped someone, whether it is to help them with their trailer problems, or just helped them laugh for a minute.

Old Karma

Would you believe that Karma is an old concept.
This very forum used to have a karma system in its early days.

Would you believe that many members here had in excess of 1000 - 2000 points of karma?

I am very confused with the new system of attaining karma, a lot of thinking if you are concerned with it. But I figure why spend time contemplating the issue, the forum will probably absolve Karma again sooner or later.

The reason karma was disolved before was because it was 'hacked' into our old software when we were running version 2.x of the forum software. When we upgraded to v3.x it was a native feature. The native feature uses a different way of calculating karma then the old system. The old system gave you points for starting threads that got lots of page views, karma for every post, etc. The new system is based on explicit recognition by other members for posting quality content. The amount of karma received is based on the karma givers reputation. Their reputation is based on total posts, karma earned and tenure. That way a longer tenured member that has earned a lot of karma and made many posts will give you more karma points then a newbie.

Trust me, I would have brought over the old points if there was any way to make them compatible. There is now a 'hack' out that allows for a system like our old one and I have thought about installing it. It would then be rivet points and they would be earned like before and karma points would also earcn you rivet points. Gets even more confusing, so until we upgrade to v4.x I think we should stay with our current karma system.

The karma system is intended to simply be a nice way to recognize each other for making quality posts. so if you see a post that is 'worthy' then please leave them some karma.

Hope we can keep the Karma system. Some Karma is far better than no Karma.
