Google Search

Why do you have your custom google search configured to take you off the air forums instead of opening in a new window? It is quite frustrating and such an easy fix.

??

Thanks

Since you know this is the case, that the Google search results do not open up in a new window or tab, you can work around it by having more than one airforums tab ready to go -- then search in one tab, leaving the other open for replying etc.. An easy fix . . .

The search results may have a Google URL, but the results are composed of only airforums.com threads/posts.

BTW, when searching for a item to purchase, open a "new private window" out of the file menu. That way you won't get ads for your search showing up in your email or other sites. I always think it's creepy the way your search follows you around.

Hi, Howie -

It says this is the Forum Admin forum, so I thought this might be the appropriate to ask the admin who is in charge of the custom google search tool to go in and check the box that says "open search in new window".

I've noticed a new little blue search box toward the right side of the page that is a direct search for these Forums to google.

I've found it pretty handy, and then use the back arrow to return to wherever I was.

Link "Target"

The written and spoken word can be interpreted in so many different ways...

What I believe the OP is referring to is the fact that after entering a search term, and clicking the search button, the link opens a Google Search page in the current tab or window. I believe he'd like to see the search page return in a new separate tab or window.

HTML coding for links specifies that a link "target" can be opened in a new tab or window. The link statement has to be coded to do that. The default link "target" is to open in the current tab or window.

I too would prefer that the Google Search results open in a new tab or window. That preserves the current tab and history. Meanwhile the search results query can go in multiple directions in that new tab and you can simply close it when your task is complete.

It all sounds complex, but really it's not. It's just another way to do the same thing. In marketing I guess you'd call it an advanced feature. YMMV...

Since nobody else will answer your question directly, I will.
The Forum search sucks.
The custom Google search is a far better way to search the forums, and has been provided by the Forum admins to get better Forum search results..
If you don't like it, don't use it.

For Mac users the solution is simple. If using Safari, put your search terms in the Google Search box and then while holding down the 'command' key, click on the search button. Your search will open in a new tab.

I think he's simply making a suggestion to improve things...nothing more...

Correct. No complaints - just suggesting an easy fix for better user experience. I run a large music community forum, and we utilize the exact same search engine.

There is a new thread in the Classic Motorhome sub-forum which is also about Google searching.

Admins and Moderators -- Could that thread be moved into this Forum Admin forum, and perhaps combined with this thread?

Could the "old" search function in the blue menu bar above be retired and consigned to ancient history? It never worked that well IMO.

Thanks,

Peter

To the forum admins and mods -- could the "old" search process be relegated to history please?

Thanks,

Peter
