Great post Nick...should be mandatory reading! (Or maybe it would be easier to change the name of the forum:The Airstream Knowledge and Opinion Sharing Forum!)
I have always enjoyed this forum because it is so civil, and loaded with many intellegent, experienced, helpful, and talented folks. I try to contribute when I can, and ignore the "trolls" that popup occasionaly (sometimes they are hard to ignore, and some of the repetitive ones are really getting old...)
Have a safe trip south!

Hello Nick -- Thanks for putting this together. I just had an idea. We're looking for authors and articles for a new feature. Let me check to see if your post could be used for that. I'll have more word for you once you get down to Florida. Safe trip!
Nick has been en route to his Florida location since Tuesday. He knew it was sticky before he left. Nick will be in contact mostly from public libraries while wintering in the Orange State. I'm sure he will respond to queries when he can.
... A fundamental principle governing one's contributions to the forum should be: "Don't post anything that you wouldn't be prepared to say out loud to a person sitting round that campfire, especially if that person was bigger, stronger and smarter than you, and all the others present could hear you." Anytime you feel tempted to respond aggressively, rudely or sarcastically, remember that you're sitting round that campfire, and your reputation is on the line. ...
I like that campfire analogy (Simile? Metaphor? whatever...) Hopefully everyone can relate to that and post in a civil manner.

and EVERYTIME a new THREAD is started by some one with say...under 1000 posts, they should get a "did u search HERE FIRST prompt' before the thread can go live....
One of the first posts I put on the forum was to a thread that was old and ....
immediately I was castigated for dredging up something so old! That thread has now disappeared to where old threads go to die.
Not having achieved 1000 posts, I won't even consider a new thread. Well, that's not true, I did start one, but it died without a whimper. I have tried linking to it, but that has not done much either. I guess I just need that experience of a few hundred more posts .
As a true newbie, your post made me feel comfortable with the forum. It is not only valuable for this forum but all chat based forums. Thank you!! Your Rules rule. See you on the road!
Welcome aboard, Cap'n. The crew is at your service.
Nick.
