Forum Download Speed
Is anyone one else but me having trouble navigating this forum? I can get right to the portal page but once I try to open any of the threads the site goes to snail speed. This is the only URL that I'm having trouble with. It took over ten minutes to be able to post this. It's been like this since the weekend. I have wanted to respond to several threads but nothing happens. Zep emailed me and he's having trouble also.

It seems normal to me, but I have a satellite ISP so it's always trudging along in the slow lane.

Forum Download Speed
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with Internet Explorer 8 on a Verizon DSL connection. All is well for somewhere around an hour of viewing threads on the forum -- then -- I receive an error message stating that a particular program has stopped responding and if not allowed to close will slow Internet operation -- if you click OK then you cannot post or perform most other functions in the Forums -- if you click cancel you can continue to access functions but download speed slows to a crawl and some pages must be reloaded several times to get the entire thread to display. I hadn't noted this problem before downloading and installing Internet Explorer 8.
Kevin
P.S.: I just received the message -- the exact text is:
A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive.
Yes - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NO
It is a yellow triangle advisory.

It has been most frustrating! I was blaming a download of Safari 4.01 from Friday last. None of the other websites that I frequent have been any trouble at all. I'm using a MacBook with Mac OSX 10.5.7 with internet access through Comcast cable broadband, usually very zippy. This website needs some tweaking.

To help us track this down it would be really great if you could run a traceroute when you have this problem and then post the results here. Basically this will show how many steps are being made from the server to your computer and how long each hop takes.
Here is some info on how to do this: In Windows, what is traceroute and how do I use it? - Knowledge Base

Problems Here Too...
I attributed it to our 5 year old computer but I do seem to have more problems with this web site than others. I'll try the traceroute command next time it happens.

I am know on my work computer and everything is fine. I tried to open this thread up last night at home to see if there were any responses but gave up. I will down load the trace info from here and give it a try at home tonight.

I'm having the same problem --- at work --- don't know what service is used (NASA - but I am on my own personal time right now). Definitely had it last night - roadrunner/brighthouse cable.

From time to time the site is slow, or a page doesn't open for quite a while. I have thought the server was overloaded, but I wouldn't know a server from a waiter. Websites load in many different speeds, so I don't know this one is so much worse than some, but it does seem slower than average.
Some threads skip around a lot, especially ones with photos, but i have reported this many times and it still happens.
I have a Mac OS 10.4.11 and use Safari 3.0.4.

Ya, it's always pretty slow for me too. I run MacOS 10.5.7, Safari 4.0 on 2 machines, same story. I ran several traceroutes and they all seem to hang:

I used to have them and....they came out with a letter(read that to mean email) that said in effect, if you exceed the download limits per month..You could expect either an extra charge or maybe reduction of service..(implied)
I believe they said the limit was..(for me) 250 gb per month? I never paid any attention to it as I rarely was considered to be a power user..
Not sure if this is your problem but..it gives you another point to look at..
ciao

I have the problem too.
Not an expert either...but my Mozilla shows that its advertising thats causing the delay. My ISP is a problem too.....even with DSL I am limited to downloads daily...exceed that limit and I go Dead Damn Slow. If I hang on Youtube any time at all I am exceeded for the day...then SLOW for the Forum. I think MAC is on the horizon.
