User accounts and posts can't be deleted. You can remove your personal info from your profile, and simply stop posting.

Please message us through the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the page. We can clean things up quite completely.

What the heck does "clean things up quite completely" mean?
Was the reply in post #2 grossly overstated or not?

Are you saying all or most posts of someone who requests such an "abomination" would be removed?

IMHO one of the problems of "over moderation" is that sometimes the contexts of threads is broken, lost, and changed by over cutting.

Now I can certainly appreciate the ability and willingness (by mods) to alter or remove a very limited expression that a poster requests due to he/she missing the edit time-out expiring.
But what if for example Inland Andy requested that all his (wonderful IMO) posts be removed. Heaven forbid. Well would it be done?
My Goodness that would wreck 68.5% of the useful info on the forums. IMHO.

I have been led to believe that the posts here become at least, co-owned by the forum owner as long as those particular posts are displayed in any one of his owned threads. And of course he (forum owner ) owns ALL of the threads.
[Whereas threads may be wholly owned by forum owner. I suspect that is somewhat unsettled copyright law].
In other words I suspect that anyone can "lift" any post from here and use it, quote it, etc. as they might please under "fair usage" allowances.
But if a Thread is lifted in whole, and used without permission, that might be a violation of some law.

My point being;
As co-owner of individual posts, which of course become parts of fully owned threads, the forum owner has NO obligation to remove any post due to any request.

I think once a passerby lifts a copy of any part or whole of a post and uses it, that the forum owner has no ownership of it and no claim of damage for the lifting and usage of it.
But if a passerby does same with a Thread; then the Forum Owner has cause and possible recourse.

But a poster himself (post author) has no claim nor authority over the post once he has placed it onto a Forum that (altho private owned) is public in scope and viewable by anyone without any limiting registration or viewing gates.

NOTE:
the above is simply my hypothesis and opinion. Based I think and hope on my common sense.
I am not an attorney nor a copyright expert.

I do obviously find it to be an interesting and needed subject for further conjecture.

Posts are rarely removed and as you have pointed out become part of the fabric of the forum. Sometimes however members profile contain personal info that they may wish to have removed and we are sensitive to this.
