Cross posting vs. Hijacking

Not sure if you guys use these terms or not:

Hijacking: Jumping into the middle of a thread and taking it in a different direction

Cross Posting: Starting up a thread that's very similar to an exisiting thread, usually (but not always), in a different forum.

I'd just like to know what's considered good form here? Yesterday I started a new thread because I didn't want to 'hijack' an existing thread.

Later on a moderator merged my thread in to the existing thread, which is cool, I just don't want to cause anybody any grief. So should I assume that 'hijacking' is considered the lesser of two evils?

Thanks!

Crossposting or Hijacking is not an issue.

We would like new topics started in new threads, but sometimes reading a thread will trigger a thought that you want to post. If the Moderators feel that it should be a standalone thread we can split it off.

If we think it should be merged we can do that too, as you saw. All we are trying to do is keep things organized.

I will say it has not been too much of an issue, but if it becomes one we will let the membership know. Thanks for asking about this, it is something that folks need to consider as they click on the reply button.
