I just installed the AdBlock Mobile App on the iPad, and the world is back to normal.
Why Airforums permits such an intrusion on this site is beyond me.

PS -- There is an older thread I just remembered:

FYI a newer thread:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f138...up-172720.html
I had to install AdBlock Mobile on the iPad, as the Colton RV pop up started disabling my browsing a couple of days ago.

I don't know where Colton RV is but I don't wish them well.

Try the Adblock Mobile App.
If I am ever in northern NY I will take the time to shop for a new Airstream at Colton, spend hours and hours of time there, asking all kinds of stupid questions, then walk out, explaining this whole fiasco to them.

Maybe if we all did this they would get the message?

Guessing that Airforums permits the Pop Up Invaders according to the geographic location of each poster.
Terrible Marketing IMO!

I'm on my iPad, and haven't seen it. Are you all on safari, or the air forum app? It's not that want to see it!

On my laptop Edge, Explorer, Chrome all have the same result.
On my Android phone using the web ap or Chrome the same.
I'm past due on sending my annual contribution.
Maybe that is the reason some of us are seeing these ads?

On the iPad Mini it happened in Safari and Firefox, but a day or two ago, the Colton pop up took over Firefox per Post #2.
All is good now with AdBlock Mobile.

Colton rv ad that constantly pop up....
I think using the actual airforum app that ya download from the play store or Apple store gets rid of the ads. At least, I ain't ever seen em.

That's how AirForums affords to provide this forum free of charge to everyone using it.
In other words, Colton RV pays a share of keeping this forum online.

Maybe but I belong to a very busy VW forum with bunches and bunches of members too. That forum loads instantly and no pop ups no banners no side bar adds no waiting for this and that at the bottom of the screen. One thing the VW forum does not do is host pics directly you do that via other services.
Of the four forums that I belong to this is the only one loaded with ads only one of the other three has a little bit of ads.

The other forums must have a different business model. Not AirForums.
My point is about directing the hate at Colton RV. It's misplaced. They don't decide on the business model and they don't provide the design for how the ads are served. They are only running advertising and the publisher is serving it to the eyeballs. Colton RV doesn't have anything to do with it and if everyone gets upset at the advertisers they'll stop advertising and AirForums will cease to exist.

Disagree in part.
Please review Post #2 where I reported that the Colton RV pop up was disabling my Airforums session on an iPad Mini.
This is going too far!
I would happily pay an increased annual fee -- which many of us already do -- to be rid of things like the pop-ups.
Paid ads are not the only successful Internet business model!
Have a good weekend.
Peter
PS -- Your explanation for why Colton RV should be let off the hook is also misplaced IMO. It is their detritus which froze my iPad the other day.
Why would I not blame them? They should monitor the sites where they advertise and change things when there is a problem!

I'm not sure where that pop-up is coming from so I can't comment on it. If it is coming from them, I agree. If it is coming from Google or some other ad serving company they likely have no control over it. AirForums is receiving the revenue, that's all I know. And that revenue pays the bills to keep the forum viable. I'd be willing to bet AirForums would lose over 80% of the membership and participation if they charged $10 per month.

Not so sure about that equation, but some re-balancing of things should be tried IMO . . .
. . . if clear value was received for the dues paid.
How about $50 per year? Under $5 per month.
Personally I would pay $100 annually for a faster streamlined experience here.
PS -- The dues structure could be based on actual use density. 50 free posts per month? Different fees for heavy use of photo attachments?
Most active users here have combined TV/AS rigs worth in the neighborhood of $50,000 to $100,000 in my opinion, and spend lots of money on their travel and camping costs. A nominal fee for a better experience here would be pocket change to these active users.
Etc.

Would be interesting to run the math. I'm probably the wrong guy to ask since I pay 100% of the cost of a forum in the RV niche and don't even monetize it. - But I'm not in the "forum" business.

Makes sense to me. But my years in business have taught me that what makes sense for one guy doesn't make sense for the next. I have Airstream owners tell me daily it makes sense to spend 6 figures on a new Airstream, and another $50K on a tow vehicle, then hitch it together with a $500 hitch.

Air Forums must link the nearest Airstream Dealership to the Air Forums member ... I get the same annoying pop-up from Camper Clinic II of Austin, regardless of whether I'm on my laptop or my iPhone. It's probably the single annoying thing to me with the Air Forums.

IMO, advertisers have everything to do with it, since they are paying for it.
Letting the advertiser know that I do not appreciate their advertisement is not directing hate at them. It is letting them know they are not getting what they are paying for.
Advertising should be something to attract people to a product, service, etc. If it is presented in a way that is offensive, then it is doing just the opposite.
