When I saw this post I went to the chat room, but it did not work for me. It did not lock, but all I had was the window with a red X in the corner. I then upgraded my Java(script) to Version 6 Release 11 (Windows Platform). It now works for me.

Redhawker,
What browser and version are you running, Mac or Windoze. Also check for the latest version of Java. I have less problem with the chat in Fire Fox versus IE.

I just checked the chat room out..I use Firefox 3.0.5 and, the very latest Java.
It' loaded right up and, had a log in window..
Female voiced "welcome" greets you.
My question is..
Once you're signed into the forum, why should you be required to log in once more to chat?
I realize that it's a canned program, etc..
Just asking..

It's part of our ongoing effort to help you remember your name. These exercises are specially designed to keep Airstreamers mentally alert and fully engaged. This is a service that we provide as a forum membership perk. We spent a lot of time and got specialists in to help develop these mental ticklers, we held information summits before rolling out this program, a committee worked with the specialists and there was an in-depth study about the efficacy of this program. Other opportunities to play the "can I remember my name" game also occur on the classifieds page and reviews section which also regularly require log in - again. My score today is 1 and 4. I obviously need more practice.
And... as you surmised, chat and the classifieds pages are actually different pieces of software than the main forum and are not perfectly integrated.

Yep~
It's amazing how these "chat programs" haven't changed much over the last 10 yrs..
I have one I installed on my very first website back in 98..
(guess my memory was better then..lol)
Essentially the same Java driven chat menu.
I have my worse problem when logging into my bank's site..It hates me~!!

well, tonight I typed in java updates and went and got a free download and installation...and lo and behold chat openned up for me! Then a window appeared to login....well...I use a thing (program) called 'last pass' that remembers all your names and passwords and even generates unfigurable passwords for hacker protection....ha ha and we all just sat there for a minute because I had forgotten my password..ha ha I guess this times password should have been 'lazenegg' Ha! Anyway thanks for the tip (s) from all of you.

We are having some trouble with the chat after an update today. If you are getting error messages or login refusals I apologize - we're working on it

You can have your password reset by using the contact us link at the bottom of the page. But... Most likely this is not a password issue as I can also not log into chat. We upgraded the chat today and are having some configuration issues. If you were able to log on to the forums with your password - there's nothing wrong with your password.
Just hang tight - we're working on this.

Interesting~
Okay..Janet, I have been reading the source code for the chat.
While I don't have the answer, I suspect what might have happened..lol
Listen, I went to the home-page for the "Chat" program.
Java Chat Software - AddonChat Live Demo
Tried the demo and, everything works..
I know it's a demo but..WOW, It snaps quicker than pancakes slapped on a dish and..you don't need a password..
Simple fix..remove the javascript on the site's page and, re-post a new copy from "addonchat's site"
Sorry to say...
This really should not be taking this long~

Just an update...
I just replaced my old "parachat javascript" chat program with the one used here on Airforums website and, it works very nicely!~ No passwords..lmao
Feel free to try my old script here if you like..You could even have audio chat..
I posted a copy here..
<applet codebase="http://parachat.webpage.com/classes/"
code="ParaChat.class" archive="pchat.zip" width="600" height="350">
<param name="ServerName" value="parachat.webpage.com">
<param name="ServerPort" value="7779">
<param name="Channel" value="#RedDogPatch">
Sorry, your browser is not Java enabled, you will not be able to chat.
</applet>
<P>
<A HREF="http://www.parachat.com">
<IMG SRC="http://www.parachat.com/images/parachat_power.gif"
border=0 ALT="ParaChat Powered" width=88 height=31></A>
All you would need to change is the RedDogPatch to your own ID..
