better search tool?

I love the forum and have gotten a ton of good advice. My only suggestion for improvement would be a better search feature. I wonder if there isnt one out there that performs better and isnt so clunky. I admit that I dont know beans about programing for forums, however, I am well versed in using computers so the issue isnt that I dont know how to search. Anyway, just a thought.

Unhappy I would like to be able to save interesting threads

I currently try to save them on my hard drive, but it would be great to save them somehow in a little file on here. There is so much information on here.

Boy, Ill second this! Is it me, or is this search function very lame. I want logical operators in my serch strings. For example, I want all threads that have in its title the words "2005" and "Classic" and ("Axel" or "wheel" or "tire"). There is way to much stuff in here to be doing 1 word searchs. Is there a way to do this? I have searched and get hundreds of results, non of which seem to have any relavence.

Ahh, that feels better

Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to Google.com, and instead of just typing "rodney" in the search box, type rodney site:airforums.com.

Once you specify this site, Google's superior search engine will provide you more related matter than you will probably care to read. And it all comes from this site.

It appears that the key here is placing the colon?

Actually the key is the phrase, "site:airforums". The keywords you put before that phrase are the keywords that are searched for on the airforums site.

If you want to make use of googles complex searching algorithms, I recommend going to googles advanced search page. It is there that you can not only specify the airforums.com site, but also any complex searching algorithms (i.e, with "ands" or "ors", etc.).

I hope this helps.

It is very commendable that you clever people found a way to skirt the poor AS Forums search engine, but wouldn't it be nice if the Forum's search engine was actually useful?

I can't tell you how many times I banged my head on the computer screen in frustration. As a matter of fact it would streamline the whole Forum's server to not have so many redundant threads because of failed searches.

Sorry, just venting a little bit!

Nice use of Google, if I can only remember it.

Airforums is a very nice site that has improved greatly over the last couple years, and I owe a lot to the posters and the hosters (or whatever the term!).

But boy could it use a better search engine!!!

A better search engine would also cut down on all those duplicate questions we see - you know, the ones that start out "I tried looking on the forum but I just can't find...etc."

Exactly! I'm definitely not slamming the Forums. 99% of it is really great. And all the people on the forums top notch. But why not go for 100%? How about a new search engine?
