I need help

Newbie owner, virgin user of site. Love the Airstream Forums however find the site is not really "user friendly".

Baby Boomer, recently retired. Have basic skills insofar as utilizing computer for work with Federal Government (Pensions). Obviously limited access due to Privacy issues. Participated in consultations with programmers through the years to ensure our new site was, as much as possible, user friendly and easy to navigate. Both for our senior population and those persons attempting to access information in relation to impending retirements. The worldwide web is a scary place to the inexperienced.

Since retirement, have been attempting to expand my knowledge base. Have to admit though, my son works in "tech support" and has rescued me so many times I have lost count.

Back to my question. We need to replace the screen door bug slide on our 1976 Argosy 24'. Have read all the comments posted on both sub-sites re: interior repairs....doors/screens and re: Argosy. Have contacted various suppliers and still my issue cannot be resolved.Screen door opening in 76 Argosy is 6 inch. Universal parts on market are 9 inch. Contrary to claims, cannot be "cut to fit". We purchased one and I can assure you it will not adapt to a 6 inch opening.

Where do I "post" this inquiry and how do I go about doing it? Do I need to hook onto an item under "door/screens.." or start a new "thread"? Any help would be appreciated.

PS: My husband is much worse. Cars, cars, cars. Old school - fighting technology all the way. Biggest accomplishments to date are ability to turn on computer and once I find site, utilize keyboard at snails pace.

Hey, we love vintage!!!

You can post your question on the interior Restoration sub forum. There is a section for windows and door.

Go to the forums page to view the sub forum list. You can start a new thread with your question. But maybe I can save you some trouble. The part you want is available through Airstream dealers. Parts dealers include Sutton RV in Eugene and Inland RV and there are many others. They both have websites if you do a search.

Recently aquired my AS, Munimula. Previously owned other TT's. Not new to the sport of being residentially challenged. The search function needs to have red letters and maybe a short course on it's use as mentioned in first post. There is an unbelievabe amount of info here, most of it good. I've no problem clicking on this or that just to see what happens, always like a surprise. It would be a shame if the knowledable folks decided to stop helping the newbies- and I despise that term. I've already met a few folks who I am looking forward to meeting next month at the Nor. Cal rally. So you see there is more here than just a Q&A about AS. The melding of minds is something all participate in daily, some unknowingly. I VERY much appreciate the moderators and others who keep this site going. Growing pains only happen with growth. And there you have it. A good pilot is always learning. Tim

New threads keep things interesting, even if they sometimes rehash old information. There are constantly new people coming into the Forums with new ideas and experiences.

that's fer sure. i'd bet 90% of us hang around just because we get a kick out of each other.

one brand-new member i welcomed via PM gushed that she was so glad to find "majorly intelligent life" here. she didn't mention me in particular but i'm sure the intent was there.

Aloha

I always appreciate a troubleshooting section when I am having difficulty interfacing with technology that has me stumped. Maybe some type of troubleshooting section with sequential steps (try this first, if that doesn't work try this etc.) would work for those of us who are under stress and need an answer asap. For the rest of us who have time and don't mind seeing the info laid out in narrative, the forum would still be the preferred method.

The difference in opinions could be about communication style: some like concise & organized info, easily accessed. Others prefer meandering and searching out tidbits - obscurity is not a problem; searching is fun for some of us. I think it's nice when longtime members know a thread exists already and point it out to a shorttime member. Pointers are appreciated.

There is a "Forums Support & How-To's" section...this thread happens to reside there. Also, check out the FAQ's already posted, if there FAQ's that you feel should be added, go ahead and suggest them here in this thread.
