**Animated Gifs**

I played around on my computer a little today and created a new animated gif; of which it wasn't allowed to load when I tried to up-load it. I believe the message stated that animated gifs was not allowed.

Does anyone know anything about this? Are we no longer able to up-load animated gigs for our avatar, or would it just simply been too large?

Yes, animated avatars are no longer permissable. I had a great one, too, that got flushed when the changeover occured.
If you currently have one, it will work until you change it, but you cannot use new ones.

**What A Bummer!**

I'm trying the best I can to stay enthused about this forum but that just doesn't help any. I tried to reload my previous avatar that was animated and it wouldn't work anymore either!

Bring Back The animation!

I am trying to find out if this change is permanent, or just until something gets upgraded.

Frankly ...

I hope it stays this way. Any novelty quickly wears off and animated gifs simply get tiresome.

Does anyone know if this was by choice or was it just a glitch that came with the newer software?

We're still waiting to hear back from AndyR about it. He'll know.

I happen to like the animated avitars. I think some are really neat. It'd be a shame if they couldn't be added any longer.

Maybe...

it's because of the latest Windows security failure (Apples, ignore the rest). Apparently it's easy for worms and viruses to be stuck into gifs and photos. My work is banning the downloading and sharing of animated files for this reason.
Ah, Microsoft.

Any new word on this?

If this would be the case I believe that a moderator could scan a gif file with a utility program before it would be installed.

I would still like to see them back, how about it Andy?

It turns out to be an unintended effect of one of the upgrades. He is planning on taking a look, after some other more pressing issues get resolved.

You can still upload animated gifs to your Photo Gallery, just not to your avtar. You can put them in posts too.
