Tires question for '67 caravel

Hi Everyone,

I purchased a project 1967 Caravel and am picking it up this weekend. I went out a few weeks ago and paid for it but the tires were dry rotted and one side brakes were locked up.

A few questions for ya'll:

1. Can i use a 205/65/15 tire? Seems like there are plenty of 65's out there. More choices.

2. Do I need to stick with a 205/75/15 or 225/75/15? The rims have the original bias tires on them.

3. One side brakes seem stuck. Hub will barely turn. P.O. says when they pulled it they "locked" up. Im guessing the electric brakes engaged. Anyone have any tricks to unlocking the electric brakes? Is there star adjuster on the back of the hub? Should i use a hub puller? Sledgehammer?

Thanks!

Ken in Georgetown, TX (Austin)

While it's normally bad to suggest towing without brakes, with a trailer this small if you have a reasonably decent truck with good brakes, you can probably get away with disabling the locked-up brake and towing it home with 1 or 0 brakes in central Texas. This probably will require removing the drum, which in this case is a very good thing because you need to be certain that it's just hard to turn because of the brake and not because of a bearing. You don't need to ruin the spindles in the process of getting it home, after all.

Thjere is a star adjuster which is accessible from the rear. I would try backing it out as much as you can. After you remove the locking nut and the outer bearing you might be able to rotate and wiggle the drum off.
