I just bought a 67
Caravel in Ok City. I picked it up with my Volvo V70, 5 cylinder wagon. At first the best I could get was 65 mph@14 mpg. Heading into Arkansas it improved to 15 mpg. In Alabama I was getting 17 mpg. Ga 19 mpg and finally South Carolina I was driving comfortably at 70 and getting 21 mpg. Cars normal MPG is 29.
Was the improvement due to altitude? I wonder if the cars computer was adjusting the mixture and other engine performance adjustments throughout the trip and finally had it adjusted by the trip end. or maybe it is just altitude.
my question is have others experienced such radical performance differences between Oklahoma and South Carolina or similar locations? Will I suffer such low performance always at higher altitudes and maybe it will be undrivable in Colorado.
also.. anyone know who sells a new or used wheel well molding for this 67 Caravel
