Here is a fond memory jogger for the more senior half of the Forem members.

I just found an essentially complete collection of Mechanics Illustrated and Popular Science Magazines from the 1940's and 1950's in an Aviation Library I bought. What a kick! It brings back the memories of building my own radio, models, repairing anything mechanical (build your own tear drop) with scarce resources during WW 2, home building, food preservation, etc., .....anything self sufficient. There are many subjects covered on those early days of early trailer life. Those of you familiar with the Mags. will know what is covered.....and for the nostalgic....you know too.
Old is new again.

Good find on the magazines. They are fun to read.

One thing I've noticed is the number of guys wearing ties while posing for their workshop pics, and also the fact that many of the men are shown smoking a pipe. Even the Wordless Workshop drawings has the fellow with a pipe in every drawing. The January 1955 issue had an article on how to build an inexpensive house - and they were building one for the senior western editor at 1436 Allenford Ave, Los Angeles- using asbestos cement panels for the walls. Interesting enough, on the page preceding that article, is a trailer mounted on pontoons for cruising the waterways.
