Ok, this may be specific to the mid-60s Caravels, but it has been annoying me for the last 13 years, so I finally decided to see if anyone here has a solution.

The gaucho has a narrow piece of wood along the front edge that it sits on. That piece of wood has holes in it, and you stick the legs, which have pegs in them, into the holes.

Over the years the holes get wore out, and so I drilled smaller holes several years ago, but now they have worn out too.

The end result is every time someone rolls over, a leg falls out, and then you have to get up and stick it back in, get back in bed very carefully, and not roll over again.

Do other people have this problem? What do you do? Any ideas would be welcome.

My Bambi II was doing that. I used larger/longer screws and hinges to fix the problem.

I can't attach the legs where the holes are, because that piece actually sits on top of the cabinet below it when it's folded up. At least I haven't thought of a way to make it work. You don't have a picture, do you? Do Bambi's have basically the same sort of setup?

Is the pull out piece not connected to the gaucho frame? My '66 street side gaucho has a frame that pulls out using what amounts to table extension pieces for the pull out support. There is plywood that the cushion sits on and the legs are attached to the front permanently. Let me look for some drawings or pics of that arrangement. The only thing I could come up with that might help keep the legs in place would be threaded rods on the legs and threaded inserts on the board. Even that might get loose with time, though.

Here is a picture of my street side gaucho as I was rebuilding it. I followed the original structure plan. It is extended so you can see the table extension pieces that support the extension. Plywood will be sewn into the seat back so there will be support for the cushion next to the wall when it is made into a bed. You can also see the legs at the end of the front board.

Hmm, that is completely different from mine. On mine the entire cushion just sits on the cabinet frame below it. There's no sliding mechanism.

I kind of like the idea of threaded inserts/pegs on the legs. Maybe something like that would do the trick.

Do a search on Amazon for threaded inserts to see some examples. Some might fit the holes you already have in the frame and a 1/4 inch bolt size should keep the legs attached.

My 68 didn't come with any legs. I've been pulling out the drawers and setting that leading strip against the front edge of the drawer. Now I'm going to have to check for leg holes...learn something everyday.
